Well it has been a while since my last review but looking at the amount of quality tracks due for release it's time to get my ears & mind down to business again!

Pinball
The local man comes up trumps again with a wicked techno groove that lays almost machine pressed on top of the space invader drum patterns. The pace is fast & steady from the offset, weaving offkey stabs around a large sub alarm bass that pulsates through the track & creates a solid structure for obscure sci-fi bleeps to ignite quickly.
A 'James Brown' style funk vocal is cut & pasted accordingly with the drum's so they flicker instantly & add some sneaky drops that could be used for a quick crossfader cut or an instant mix with another rolling tech track. The escalator style drum rolls pick up all the hi-hats & shakers, & escort them into the next break of the record, slowly building & building the industrial layers on top of that alarm bass once again, then slamming home to a wicked encore of precisionly placed conga's & tube hit FX. The quick addition of more tiny shaker's & double time offset sci-FX's communicate well together leading the rest of the well packaged percussion into the sub wave breakdown. Once you enter this you realise that it's more of an opening to let the large drum roll & quick jolt FX give the listener the satisfaction of enjoying the concept of this track rather than having a huge melody & a big brash bassline to do all the work.
Raiden is definetly becoming one of my favourite producers & his reputation as a formidable producer is rising quicker by each release. 'Pinball' shows a calmer but more focused side to his production, allowing him & his fans to try alternative tastes of d&b.

Overall: 7.5/10

Dreadnaught
Rawthang are another name who's releases are been spun by alot of the big guns at the moment, & 2004 looks set to be a very good year for the duo from Norway.
'Dreadnaught' starts with a constant shaker introducing a screaming delayed firework FX, which melts away into the background only to be ignited again by a filtered melody. The pattern off the melody reminds me so much of 'Layo & Buschwacka's' beautiful release 'Love Story' that was cained earlier this year. The slight variation in keys make the melody structure sound more dancefloor orientated rather than an epic master piece.
A quick clap relays with the jungle kick drum & after 16 bars the toned down amen break settles into the mix comfortably with the rising melody. The firework FX still screams in the back while a louder drum break is slowly faded into the mix until the 'Raiden' sounding b-line comes knocking. The simple drop allows a complete change in style for the track & pushes it into a mosh pit style workout of a track.
Crashing cymbals resonate heavily with one another while a loose 94' jungle snare creates mayhem with the reese drops & boundling kick drums that pile through this track at a ballistic speed!! Neat snare fills tease one another to see who is going to create the next break for another hands in the air reaction from the crowd.
This is pure dancefloor mayhem & when that 'Love Story' melody is introduced into the drop again you kind of don't want your concentration broken from listening to the hectic production these guys have taken time to work on.
I love this track & Transparent are doing a great job with keeping the South bubbling with new ideas, & fresh talent can't wait for the next release!!

Overall: 9/10 :slayer:

Dreadnaught is phat, maximum props....transparent are becoming a very respectable label

yer man well enjoyed reviewing this track. They seem to be signing alot more of the under-rated producers rather than going for massive names. Raiden's Cenobyte E.P. is still my fav release so far from the label.
