radio voice effects

i was wondering what software, plugins and effects i would have to use to make my voice or any voice sound like the radio transmissions like in battlestar galactica. any thoughts?

I could be totally off here but i'm thinking.

Record on mic for a general humanization.

o Auto-Tune so it sounds monotone (optional).

o Down the bit-rate to make it grainy.

o Add some distortion

... Possibly add some subtle white-noise.


I'll give it a go right now, see if it works. 10 min.

So I messed up the sequencing but you still get the idea. I simply followed my own instructions minus the auto-tuning... Obviously you're going to have to play around with it yourself but if I can make that in 3 minutes at 3 in the morning i'm sure you'll do a lot better

most formants in the human vocie
sit at arround 3khz...
as this is the standing wave of the
human ear canal...
telephone and some radio transmissions
focus on these frequencies to save bandwidth...

using a bandpass filter could help out
to... but yeah otherwise distort and
maybe reduce bit depth...

Oh man, 0640 in the morning, no sleep. I even smoked some medicinal and that didn't help me go to sleep =/

Some filtering and distortion is all I need really. but a long line of that, tube distortion, reverb, more distortion, EQ and such.

Experiment but otherwise follow what's above. They know better than me

it sounds like ring modulation... download a ring modulator vst (if you dont have one) adjust the frequency and mix it with the dry signal and you should be close

this might sound a bit nooby but how do you use vst's with reaper or reason 4 (if thats possible)

you cant use vst's with reason.... but if you have a dig through it may have one built in somewhere

you use vst's within reaper... but ive never used it so you'll need to check the manual im afraid
