You're a Muslim high priest or what not on a cargo plane, delivering 100,000 Qu'rans to the flood victims in Pakistan, plane crashes in an extremely inhospitable part of the world. Is it OK to burn the 100,000 Qu'rans to survive?

Would you start to eat the paper to survive? At least then you're still digesting the Qu'ran, through your stomach instead of your mind.

    Is this acceptable?

So what happens if he's had his left hand blown off in an unfortunate suicide bombing mission gone wrong?

Seriously..deeply religious muslims would rather die than burn or wipe their asses with that book.
And there we are again - the hardliners are like the catholic back in the days of raping south america.
But how to enlight them? Maybe burning a book is a start :teeth:

I read somewhere it was acceptable only if you memorised the Qur'an beforehand. This could be a load of bullshit and I don't really understand what the different schools of thought think about that. Honestly, any practical human would choose to burn a holy book and deal with the sin aftewards. The myth is that when you die and go to hell once the day of judgement comes, if you have an iota of faith in God you just go to heaven... which means everyone goes to heaven, so what's the point of doing it right?

no no no. ill tell you the right answer, qu'rans dont mean shit if there are no humans around to read it and above all beleive in it. so burn as many as you like, long as you are repeat customer and come back for more qu'rans when you survive.

I've just deleted my copy of the qu'ran from my computer...hopefully it wont cause an international outcry!

Seriously though I think these are the right people to ask a question like that to:

A nice e-mail might get an interesting reply...

i fear im actually fatalist or maybe even a nihilist at heart. i sometimes think i only believe in money and death, and being that the latter is so absolute i cant care much about anything at all. compared to infinity a human lifetime can hardly be said to have lasted even for a heartbeat so whats it matter if a human lives a minute in the womb or a hundred years? in the eyes of infinity probably not at all but to the human walking this earth it matters alot and generally the rule is the longer the better. cos striving for survival for no other reason than not dying is so firmly built into our wetworks. i forgot where i was going with this, religion something or other and its some book about as relevant as muskets in this day and age

hah! pesant. its not like death or money require beleif to be real though is it (like religion), they happen regardless of what you think. we value your contribution but i am too high and mighty to admit im wrong in any respect.
