I'm new to production, but really keen. I play guitar so I have all the musical theory and I now want to start producing.
What tip would you suggest - stuff like layering snares so that one is mainly attack and another mainly release - just the little things that you may not otherwise think of.
Any help would be much appreciated!

what software are you using mate??

well to start things of , you can check the breaks x-change thread and download some breaks.. if you want to make your own bass , synths etc I recommend you the fruity 3xosc .. hope this was already helpfull , don't really know what kind of advice you're looking for.. will post some other tips later when I know what software you're using..

sorry i just reread my original post and realised how vague it was. basically, ive got the rough idea of what im doing with fruity loops 8, can make a really god awful tune but now i wanna know how i can start making more realistic tunes, but i dont understand layering and assigning stuff to other stuff. i was looking for advice like 'have 3 bass drums, use low pass filter on 1, high pass filter on 1 ..' etc
hope that makes more sense?
