The £2.99 is for encoding your tunes into the correct format with the correct copyright protection. And NO! you are not sending demos to us, you are sending finished tunes to be sold via online retailers. We are a publisher/distributor and so you retain all copyright but provide us with the permission to sell your copyrighted work and retain 30% commision for doing so.

Hmm, fair enough but surely the label should sort out the costs and then the artist should be getting the commission?

I think I may need to clarify something. Firstly the main aim here is to give unsigned producers and artists the opportunity to sell their music on the majority of online music retailers. Therefore an artist/producer does not need to be signed to be involved.

Love the idea, think that proper safe to give people their own slot in the market...

But if your not signed, and unknown, no promotion..how you guna sell any?

Who buys the music is down to the producer. The more you promote, the more you will sell. :D

So what the hell are we paying for? I can go out and put my mp3 on a number of sites for free, I don't need you to do it for me.. at a fucking price! I'm not sure if I'm missing something here but something really doesn't add up..

Think the difference here is that the sites they put it up to are sites that SELL the tune, not just offer it for download, and you get 70% of that money.

But can I decide what's the price for a tune?

I mean I really am interested, for me this seems to be the future of dance music distribution, but nobody's going to buy the tunes from another nobody. This kind of service would be good if you already had some "name" in the world of drum and bass, if no label wants a tune you could sell it yourself if need be. Guess i'll have to learn some basics of promoting and advertising then... blah.

The price per tune is set by the retailer. If you want me to send out some paperwork for you to read and see if it is something you'd be interested in then please feel free to email me on Michael.Hayden@churchill.com with your details.

id rather get signed to a label so i dont have to pay them they pay me.

That's fair dos mate. We're just trying to give unsigned artists/producers more exposure and get them into the market. Thanks for your comments tho, much more appreciated than some of the comms from some of the kids on here!

sure, i'll pm you my email addy. I will inspect this a bit further, although I'm sad there aren't any dnb or 'electronica' specialized retailers in your list and the target audience visits those places pretty exclusively.

What kind of a company talks to their market audience like that? I think it is somewhat childish responding like that to criticism, you're going to have to learn to take it if you want your company to be successful mate.

You say that you will put our mp3's on X amount of websites, but what would be the point in that without promotion? I could record myself having diarrhea in a toilet bowl and send it to you, because ultimately all you are doing is putting an mp3 on a number of websites.

It appears af if you are badly mimicking a record label, if you take away the promotion from a label.. what are you left with? Pointless distribution.

I'm promoting myself at the moment, do you know why?
In the hope that a label will find me so I can get a paid release.

I don't know if anyone else is with me, but I don't see why anybody would want to spend alot of time and effort promoting themselves to then have to pay to sell their own tracks. Why not just promote yourself a bit and then get advertising AND distribution of your track from a label? Without losing a penny!

I think what they are trying to sell is just service, I don't see them trying to be a record label. Times are changing with digital 'record stores' becoming more and more common, it puts some pressure on conventional marginal labels such as drum'n'bass or dubstep. That could ultimately lead to their demise, or at least they have to evolve somehow. Luckily the same marginality that makes it prone for extinction, gives it thrust to move to new fronts quickly and adapt to the environment - we've already seen a huge lift in digital drum'nbass sales. If you were one for shameless self promotion and had that kind of confidence in yourself and your talent, you would benefit greatly from a service like this. I have to admit I dont have that in me, but am exploring the options still.

I did a quick calculation - if a service, for example iTunes sell your tune for, (I really dont know how they price tunes, guess they would be lower than hit pop songs at least) let's say 1€ and take the same 30%, and this service takes another 30% you're left with 40 cents per track. With 12 sold tunes you would've already made back the cost of this service.

That's why I said it appears as if you are mimicking a label, I know digital releases are becoming more and more popular however I still think that this is pointless for upcoming artists.

If I had a big enough name, I would definately look into this.
