Politics in DnB? Lame.

I have never seen any trouble at a dnb rave in the UK and ive been to some of the roughest areas in the country. !

well u've obviously struck it lucky with the raves u go to, i've seen alot of trouble out but its usually when a pisshead gets annoyed with a pillhead

i dont think the drugs thing is an issue for other members of the public but it will definitely affect the landlord/manager's opinion, he sells alcohol not pills but if u dont like drugs u dont like drugs

drum and bass is still a fairly niche market, it has defo become more widely accessible over the last few years but u still have to take your time if you want the most out of the music, you cant turn on the tv and watch a couple of hours of scantily clad woman dancin to the latest dancefloor smashers or walk into HMV and flick through the dnb top 10. i'm sure the majority of ppl on this forum were heavily into music before they discovered drum n bass, i love loads of random shit but as far as production values go, and the sounds they create, dnb is incredible when compared with the current generic house or R&B sounds, especially considering the budget they r on.

also i've found that spending so long listening to dnb sets trying to blank out shit MCs i now do it with all music now, makes james blunt indefinably better!

other young people automatically look at me as some dutty druggy when I say I'm into D&B and go raving.

i met a couple of my gf's mates last year and when i mentioned i mixed drum n bass she said....

"anyone who listens to drum n bass is a smackhead & a skaghead!"

first i set her straight about the difference between smack and skag and then went off on one, its jus pure ignorance & if anyone does it again jus call them prejudice for sterotyping one group of ppl, i mean i dont think all greebo/emo/goth cut themselves

ooo i got a lil angry there, time for a smoke:pimp:

I think the fans of most other music genres find it hard to take that their music is so commercialised and driven by popularity and greed for money... I like to use the term "Wiley music"... as in Jo... the insufferable f****.

One thing that does really hit me where it hurts though... Pendulum... and all they've constructed from "Hold Your Colour" onwards!

Now I'm no hater... D&B welcomes all... but but many events seem to be increasingly attended by "trendy" kids with shameful jeans and stupid haircuts... I can't help but assume that Pendulum are playing to this crowd with this new hybrid rock/D&B... it angers me... not because it's new and pioneering (that's obviously always welcome) but because I think it's really shit! The tunes and sounds going on just aren't very good... not when you've got other much better examples of musical talent in your discography!

ive seen nuff rucks in raves in london from general fights to mass armed robbery, the crowd in my hometown cardiff is a lot more student types and i guess a younger crowd as they make me feel old. at the end of the day dnb is associated with pills and i guess always will be, but in cardiff its getting loads more accepted recently and a lot more venues are putting on nights from trendy bars to clubs and they all seem to do well.

and whoever said about smackheads and skagheads, they are the same, skag and smack is slang for heroin...which ive never seen in a rave!

i go on a mad one if someone stereotypes a dnbhead...i have like a half an hour rant explaining the flaws of thier music and that dnb is not a commercial music so they wouldnt know what they were talking about lol...i dunno why but i take it incredibley personally if someone disses dnb..i suppose dnb is a major part of my life so its like there dissing me

DNB and JUNGLE has always represented the more urban, tougher sides to life. Growing up in estates with no money, drugs, gangsters and trying to crawl out of the curb. It therefore attracts people from these walks of life. That also means that dnb is likely to have a more unsavoury following than trance or hard house. Thats not to say that most dnb ravers are usually sound.
The way heavy metal attracts more attitudy people, so does dnb. Its expression for ravers with attitude and aggression. People frown on metallers coz they smoke weed and thrash about aggressively at gigs. People who can express themselves are frightning to people who can't.
You are right, people associate ravers with drugs...... most of us ravers take drugs. It's never gonna be an admirable thing to do. Even though people who drink are ten times more unpredictable and violent.
