    .......my poor broken car.

Its started making a horrific high pitched whine, but only when im off the acceletrator. Essentially from what i can work out through poor car mechanical knowledge and twisted logic that the noise is coming from the car equivilant of a free wheel on a pushbilke (you know, the clicking noise when you stop peddaling)

So does anyone know what this part of the car is?

    Thanks for coming.

could be your engine because its only when off the throttle and not when your cornering or braking.

have you checked your oil level?

Sweet new sig Karnage! She should really be wearing a lifting belt for that ;) Umm anyway. I don't know much about cars but could it be part of you fan-belt assembly? I've seen my dad spray something on my mom's car when it's making high pitched noises like. Why don't you google it and see what you can find out?

No No No. Definitely not fan belt, its a gnarly scraping noise coming from the transmission. Maybe time to start looking at new cars. I love my little polo thought man, spent so many hours of time and effort on it.

Also I can't help. I know nothing about cars. Have you tried changing the flux capacitator?

The flux capacitor is fuxxing just fine. Gonna drive it to work anyway, if it breaks down i get free recovery anyway, and i cant be fucked with work!

my car rattles like a tank and its cos i have a crack in my exhaust manifold that i cannot afford to fix and will cause me to fail the mot later this year :(

in my experience harsh screeching / rattling is normally from the breaks

So in keeping with my recent run of luck, my car did breakdown, on the way home. 2 hours in a lay by off the A505 waiting for recovery. Turns out the gearbox is "royally Fucked" (technical term) so i gotta find a new one and replace it.

Feel free to poke fun at this recent mis-fortune.

Changed it when i first got the car, as i did a whole service on it. Had another look at it now and its full of metal filings, so that confirms the gearbox fucking up. Its where i go from here that worries me, Im pretty handy with a spanner and apparantly its only 8 bolts and 2 drive shafts :S, but am i really gonna buy a new box from ebay and fit it myself?

    Thoughts please

i definately know how to do these, my uncle always does them as he's a mechanic and whenever i go i always watch him.

you'll need a jack and some axel stands or if can use a ramp even better.

there is 8 bolts and take out the drive shaft that connects to the gearbox, but first take out everything in your way so you can get to the gearbox on top.

the rest is pretty straight forward undoe the bolts and slip it off, be carefull these things are heavy, heavier than them weights in my sig.
