Nice lil article on vice.com.... so funny how they rip into dnb... has been true though, playing some nice garage jams changed to a dnb dj then machete gets dropped and the whole dance floor ran away like garry glitter was asking for their phone numbers( that acutally did happen a couple of years back)

Of course thats just one example, dnb is still win fo sho

he's clearly never been to proper house parties with actual rigs and stuff in, they are the ones.

The dnb bit is hilarious though.

"Drum n bass obsessives are the worst kind of purists; they insist on killing everybody else's buzz because they're too far gone in skunk psychosis to appreciate any music without a breakbeat."
    fucking lol

Every point made in that refers to a different type of house party.

The worst kind of house party is the kind where theres tonnes of genre's and loads of different interests.

Best house partys ive been to theres been a decent rig, whole house is stripped clean and its literally a rave without getting searched at the door.

I agree with the stuff he says about the blacks though.

What with them smelling different to white folk because they use different sanitary products to them, not because their skin just smells funny.

Having been black most of my adult life i can completely empathise...

i been to a few house parties where its 2 days worth of techno. nothing but fucking techno. when i hint for a little dnb just to change the 8 mundane techno beat just for 4 minutes so we can relax our brains and stop a couple of people getting nose bleeds then that should be ok. NO that changes the mood. fuck off. technoo for 8 hours is ok but for 42 hours is beyond a fucking joke. change the music genre.

Best parties have more than one room.

We used to throw parties in Uni where one room would be house, techno an breaks an another room with dnb an a bit of electro.

We even had beat boxers and bands play at one of our house parties

haha, I can imagine. Although, I have seen this done really well at Hit n Run back when it was just starting out. Pretty sure Rich started playing along on bongos over a track in someones set. I'm pretty sure that had probably been agreed though.

there is a time and place for it, done well its fine - but this was in a room rammed wall to wall with people off their nut and i was having a struggle to mix as it was without some bongos confusing me!

can't imagine bongos at hit & run tbf, although I imagine if they did it was for a good reason

To be fair I do love a good party in some dingy shit hole full of d&b heads (we once cleaned out our house, covered EVERY surface in about 10 layers of bubble wrap and got hold of more lazers/smoke machines then Matter), but I kind of agree with the d&b bit on there. I've been at plenty of 'normal' parties just with people who are sound but don't live music, where someones been insistent on tearing out d&b and it's ruined the buzz of 90% of the people in the room. Time and a place.

if people arent feeling the dnb, throw in some vocal sing along bits like 'ready or not' 'pieces of heaven' 'hurt you' and so on they will soon be loving it. i think everyone has it in them to like dnb just some people need the sing along..
