So i have always been a Shure M447 man myself, but i decided to sort my decks with and extra technic and stuff.

so i I like my decks to be aesthetically pleasing and well as being a top spec.

so i splashed out and bought 3 Ortofons and they look belting.

now i have had my set up since last august, and here it is....

Now since i have installed the Ortofons I have had to replace the stylus 5 times on 3 needles, because when i spin my tune back to find my cue point the needle will sometimes drop off the record and the actuall needle will catch on the strobe bit of the platter and totally fuck it up and bend it, that then cuts out frequencies and its fucking pissing me off, at 40 nicker and stylus i cant keep replacing them.

now i dont seem to recall them jumping off the edge of any record except my Traktor timecode wax.

has anyone experienced this before? any info or just dust off my 447s?

Might sounds a bit obvious and I'm sure you probable have it set up correctly but, is the tracking weight right?

Occassionally my concorde's have knocked off and bumped along the platter but ive always found theyre at JUST the right angle for the side of the platter to not touch the stylus.

I just pick it up and put it back on the wax and its fine.

All about M447's man can't believe you made the switch to Ortofons.
One of my pals just got White Labels which has made me incredibly jealous.

Anyway, Ortofon Concords, they do my nut. Replacing a stylus was a common theme when I had these previously. Standardly gave up with them.

ortofons are a bit odd sometimes, main trouble i have is the contacts not being solid.

dunno about your issue though, maybe just go back to the shures

from what I can find on the net you need your base height around 1.5 (check that its angled towards the needle ever so slightly), 0 anti-skate and around 3 grams of weight...don't turn the weight around as that's what noobs do.

or yeah, just go back to the Shures haha

wheel of death. that's why i put piece of cardboard near the platter - so there is no way the needle can fall there. might not look super slick, but at least i dont damage my styli this way.

if your needle lifter thingys actually work then you get set them just right so that the needle can touch the vinyl but not hit the deck if knocked. worth a look at the turning the weight around on to add some more, well, weight. deffo helps as this needles are light as fook and should solve the spin back problem

    But.. just use cdjs.

I've always had issues with ortofon.
They are decent, but the stylus always have been breaking on me just from usual use.
The shures look more robust and I would defo switch when I've got the cash.

Got a pair of Whitelabels here. Gave up with them because I was going through stylus after stylus and ended up getting a pair of Ortofon DJS concorde carts instead. Now i'm having the same problem with these! I'm not being super clumsy with them or rough its just like the slightest knock will destroy them, happened twice in a week now and it's doing my head in! Went years and years on a single set of stylus when I first started mixing now i'm getting dicked on at every corner it seems.

Recently had my decks refurbed so I think i'm going to get a new set of Whitelabel stylus and see how they go again. They just seem really fucking delicate compared to anything else i've used which is a shame because when everything is running smooth they have a beautiful sound. So yeah i'll see how they go but if the fucking stylus break again on me quickly i'll be replacing them and offering them up to you guys!

Cartridge problems are the bane of my life (and bank account) these days i swear!

Also who the hell do Ortofon think they are charging £30-£50 for a single stylus! Robbing bastards. Compared to the £20 from Shure for a Whitelabel stylus especially!

    personally.
i dont dig on concordes, they are more money and look out of place on a turntable. like an blue die cast exhaust cover on a posh car.

if they are giving you jib, double check your set up.

    first the tonearm height
then set ur floating zero, then add recomended tonarm weight as recomended in the stylus manual
    set anti skating.

still giving u shit, something is wrong.
