Quite a controversial idea but......what about re-vamping a classic tune of your choosing?? Making it all, without sampling the tune itself.

For e.g, We've done a couple in the past, Push n Pull by Clipz, Turbulence by Moving Fusion, and recently I was really into Alix Perez & Sabre's - Solitary Native but thought the drums needed to keep up with tunes that our out now, so I remade the whole thing. I kinda flopped on the drums which I will probably fix soon but I got the rest of the tune down. :-/

So yea, basically take a track that you like or think you can recreate and do it!!
Think this would be pretty interesting, it has to be an older tune though no point attempting to recreate a new one. And try give yourself a challenge. I can't run this but I'm sure one of you cool cats could host it.

Anyway it was just a brainfart as I was trolling through some of my older tracks and come across my remix.
I will obviously not enter that tune if this is to go ahead lol but I would happily judge!

Sounds like an interesting idea!
Maybe the panel could pick out a selection of tunes for the entrants instead of people picking their own? Try and level the playing field a bit? Dunno

I like the idea, but it also scares me, haha! I agree with Attire though about the playing field being leveled. Also just to clarify it's kind of like remixing the track without having stems or being able to sample from it right? So we can take a classic but it doesn't necessarily have to be dnb?

How bout recreate as close as you can for the first drop and then add your own flavour for the second? Does sound scarily like fail on my part but it would be fun to try!

Yea good call. Maybe pick a classic from each sub genre, tech, jungle, liquid etc

Ide encourage ppl to get their suggestions in now so we can get a list compiled then whittle it down.

I pick Disco Dodo.

Mate what a challenge!! lol I don't even think Lynx himself can recreate that tune anymore! haha

Think we should try keep it dnb, but yea for instance if i wanted to ruin my 'street cred' and try recreate Ray Keith's - Renegade, i would have to sample that signiture noise from his tune, and possibly the piano's too as they were sampled, but i can remake the bass and the drums, maybe stick my own flare on the drums, as long as you are tryin to improve it, its all good. no point ruining these classics lol

Basically something like Alien Girl, shouldn't be touched reason being, not only are you guaranteed failure, but if you mix that track today it still holds it down! So, in other words this is just an encouragement to 'update' any older tracks of your liking that aren't cuttin it nowadays??

Think this could work if done right......

sounds great, but i dont think a tune like disco dodo would work, its way difficult to even come close to that.
i agree it should be a pretty simple tune like a classic mampi swift or why not moving fusion or something like that perhaps? anyway this sounds fun, great idea

for the ongoing compo all judges have dropped out as they all lost their jobs this month. nacon/vidual is the only judge left so we have yet to hear from him, his judgement will be final.

Would be good if you posted that into the ongoing compo thread but hey at least you posted it somewhere :D

This is a wicked idea, but i would 100% suggest that before the comp goes ahead, it's all double checked with whichever artist/label we're going to be remaking that its ok to do so. As you might end up getting dnbforum a bad name...

I cant produce but this sounds like a wicked idea, would be interested in hearing the entries. Maybe some old-school zinc like 174 trek or casino royale?
