and is a sample what i think it is; a small part of a song like just the lyrics.

anyone also know any good songs i can mix for drum&bass?

correct, a sample could be a small part of a song, a drum loop, even right down to a milisecond of a snare drum, or hi hat.

could be anywhere from 0.1 seconds long to, well however long you want it to be.
