Dominick Martin – “Shine A Light” Very soon after the release of “Shelf Life Vol. 2″, Calibre stated he would be releasing his long anticipated downtempo album, “Shine a Light”. We are excited to finally announce full details of the album which will be released on 12″ Vinyl / CD & Digital. “I have spent over 10 years writing music, the majority of my work being drum and bass, so i wanted to write an album that wasn’t attached to a particular musical genre, to me it felt like feeling my way in the dark”. “And that my friends is what interests me, a mystery re-ignited; A different story to tell; And it’s as simple as that; No frills just some music that I liked. I hope a few of you do also“. SIGCD005 / SIGLP005 Dominick Martin Shine A Light To be released on 12″ Vinyl / CD & Digital on Monday 16th November. 01. The Truth (Ft. DRS) 02. Change 03. This is a wonderful album, been listening since I got it a few days ago and its grown on me. Personally, I wouldn't mind if Calibre continued down this route, I love his dnb but those productions aren't cutting edge enough anymore. He has bags and bags of talent and it is great that he is not confining himself to one genre any more. Big ups.
might get this on cd or something when ive got some dollar, dont think its mixable enough to warrant a vinyl purchase mind you.
what sort of genres we talkin then? Dubstep? Hip Hop? I have to be honest I wasnt to impressed with his Dubstep when I checked it out in the record shop, but to be fair I probly need to hear it again.
Not trying to sound pretentious, but its not really a release about genres, I think classification is what he is trying to break away from. There is all sorts in there, from dubstep (more scuba then skream), to electronica, to piano laden little numbers that are beatless, to real guitar based rock influences. He has played a lot of the drum edits himself, as well as sung on many of the songs. As for getting it on c.d and not vinyl, I collect vinyl as well as mix as its my preferred medium for just listening to music. However the c.d gives you a couple more tunes!
I wasnt trying to pidegeon hole him, I was just wondering what sort of tracks he had on there, i.e. if there were any dubstep, hip hop, techno, rock etc on there...
Oh I know mate, no worries. The whole albums vibe is melancholic and in parts atmospheric. It all still has the same Calibre vibe, just repackaged in different formats. If feels tragic and beautiful in parts, and is a great living room and a zout listen.
bought this earlier today, have to say its awesome stuff just to chill and relax too, lovely vibes in it - would definitely recommend it
