We spent millions regenerating a run down area, creating jobs, investment for the future and putting on a show for the world.

American spent billions sending that to Mars to beem down some cool pictures but also to confirm that the planet is indeed red.

that is awesome. looks pretty much like i had imagined. but the skies are supposed to be red, is what i thought. bn14 jungelist, i thinkl its due to the composite nature of the image that the scale feels a bit skewed.

your obv thick in the head, thats not what i said, nor fact. 1. maybe we went to mars, maybe disney made a movie on it.
Also, mars would ne the planet to sustain life if we had to flee this planet. K?! now shhhhh

It is what u said. U compared the US getting to Mars as some sort of superiority complex over London hosting the Olympics. I simply highlighted that we spent our money a lot better rather than sending a probe to Mars to prove its red still.

Why would we want to move to Mars? It certainly wont happen in our life time and im sure world leaders would argue that there is no point investing all that money into the idea when the moon of Mars is getting closer to the planet, eventually crashing into it anyway??

Go figure.... na wha a mean bra?

i dont think it can support life, right? you cant breathe on mars i dont think. something they solved in the alien trilogy with the rather douglas adams ish idea of terraforming devices that installs an atmosphere on planets! its a big whirring machine bout the size of an airco from the 70s made by the same organization that sends out ripley and her buddies to check whats wrong with that colony, thats the intrigue to alien 1 from what i can recall.

if it happens we wont be around and with how economies go up and down i dont think anyone would be willing to invest in such an idea.

I think the idea is to eventually find somewhere else we can go. And also to find out if there has ever been life on mars etc etc.

But more importantly..... to find out if there are any minerals on mars that we could havest and create energy with. Simple really.... why would we go up there and spend billions if there isnt a way to make profit from it.... simple business sense tells you that. If we dont find anything.... then we wont bother building/researching anything that will keep us alive up there... ie... what logickz was talking about... bio domes and what not.

and yeh waht fes said... we may need to flee this planet at some point in the future.... so it could act as some sort of life boat...
