My Studio Build Thread (Pics..)

Cant say anymore than has already been said.....But MOST important thing is to a build room inside a room with air gaps in between each layer. I kitted out my old garage a few years ago with acoustic plasterboard and it worked amazing!! Also soft furnishings are important for sound proofing.

Right, so.. Most probably a stupid question but if the exterior of that frame is plasterboard'd, and gaps between the
Timber filled with Rockwool, with foam insulation somewhere in that sandwich too; does this count as making the interior a "seperate room" ? as there will be a layer of plasterboard internally as well.

Sorry if I've repeated some stuff I'm on my phone and can't read posts while writing,

Cheers for the positive words, got all the vertical wall beams drilled and screwed onto the block wall today.

Oh before I forget, anyone know if non specialist acoustic "egg cup / box foam" is worth using?? Like the same kind if shape but softer and you can buy it in rolls, I know the more compact the foam is the more it can deaden the sound but as a cheap alternative would the "memory foam topper" kinda stuff be any good??

Cheeeers!

Gearslutz would be the best place to ask however I very much doubt it. Bass absorption relies on density. As I said, check out DIY acoustic panels using Rw3 Rockwool. That's your cheapest and most effective option.

NO! Don't do it man. It's a myth that they help in any way as the material they're made out of isn't made to handle sound/acoustics. While it may resemble the appearance/touch of real studio foam, it isn't.

Check out Auralex stuff on Amazon or Ebay. A lot of times they sell nice big lots/bundles for relatively cheap. To add, because of your room size, you won't break the bank on acoustically treating your space.

Ive been reading up today and this works from an sound insulation point of view but with flat walls you'll get massive reflections unless you treat the inside aswell. diffusers etc

Right,
so it was my 21st the Friday just gone, wanted to crack on with building but got sidetracked... and ended up seeing S.P.Y, Sigma, Matrix & Futurebound, Loadstar on Saturday.

Worked a bit Saturday evening before going out, worked last night and a few hours tonight.

all the lighting cables and mains cables are all positioned correctly and waiting along with plugs,

The floor is now in, for good. Need to carpet but that will obviously be near the end of the build.

The ceiling is up, too. This was probably the hardest bit so far, so hopefully it should be mellow from here on...

There are 2 interior plasterboard walls up now, sounds uninteresting but looks amazing so i'll post pics tomorrow when I have slept, so tired at the minute !!!

if your reading this then cheers for the interest and feedback appreciated whether its positive or negative, peace

fan all connected up, used a hole cutter and cut through the breeze blocks in the loft above the garage to the outside, used hose tubing or whatever its called and it will connect to the hole in the roof, should be silent too. will update as soon as I can take it easy

Yeh im more thinking along the lines of the sound acoustics, im sure all the gear will fit in fine.. it's just how far you wana go with it i suppose :)

So, here it is;

Need to buy monitors, acoustically treat the space, paint mdf and make a quick support for the mdf, didn't think the wood would loose so much strength but we did cut out a lot for the decks and mixer

very happy chappy
