So i worked for HMV in Hemel for 7 years before I decided to quit last july and do other things with my life. Unfortunatly the store was in the second bunch for the chop and closed its doors for the last time yesterday. I feel sorry for my ex work mates who lost their jobs cause they were a great bunch of people. I also cursed the head office dinosaurs that made terrible decisions which is why they got in this state in the first place (that and a very poor percentage of the online market)

I remember the old days of vinyl and the magic of going to Oxford circus and looking at the dnb section.

Upon hearing the news that the store was closing down i had a sobering though. When was the last time I actually went in and bought a cd? or dvd?. I mean i got games and shit but that was quite few and far between.
Ive come to realise that I was just as much a part of the problem as head office. I dont need a cd? I listen on youtube!!

I lost my mates their jobs and single handedly send the company into liquidation.............

    lol Life goes on..

Not your fault at all. Tis there's for not being able to conjure up a decent and (post) modern business model. Seriously who works at the top in some of these places!? Morons. You're not the problem, you're the signal of change.

same thing has happened all round amsterdam too, all record shops save one or two are gone, and the HMV equivalent went ages ago, same year all the video rentals disappeared, and after that, the dvd import stores. the only way to get films or music or tv right now is youtube. or maybe tv but i doubt it.

We lost Blockbuster as well in the town centre (not that I try to go down there). All thats really left is the stupid CEX trading store which is a scum filled cess pit of humanity. So no music, no dvds, no renting. I used to like renting movies - i dont wanna stream them.

Also with the new consoles I believe they are thinking of making games that cant be traded - So even shitty CEX is going to sink faster then a copy of heat magazine travels round a monastery.

Not with the PS4. Not sure about the 720. From what I read, the games need to be installed on the internal HD.

Why would you feel bad about causing a shit company to go under?

They were a terrible company, things like this cause progression and innovation. All the companies who can, will advance and get better so they dont go down the same route. If we all pity-bought from their stores in order to keep them in business thats just causing more problems. Let them die out and let a company who can do the job properly take over. Simples.

jens! why, the vibe must be returning to the forum if we got all sorts of people returning like this. but, more to the point,

it was hardly me! hardly! or, to be precise, verily. it was verily me. but by mistake and a fit of hysterics. and then i discovered the body. behind the sofa. bout quarter to three. as instructed.
