My first time playing out and its in a mainstream club.. advice!!

Whats the harm in asking ideas man.. thats how you learn..

I had no idea andy c double dropped those two tunes...

If im bein honest i got the idea from shockones d&b tv mix, except ive done it differently.. n so what mate its my first time playin out in a shitty little club..

gimme a break innit..

good tipps from everyone. but one thing that is most important: HAVE FUN! if you dont feel your set, people wont either.

Btw pretty much every double drop was done by some other DJ before, that's just the way it is with those good ones (when I saw Cyantific for the first time, he did like 5 or 6 DDs I used myself before in 90 minutes). Obviously it's not really a good thing to rip someone's ideas, but if you weren't aware of it or you'll just make it a little bit different, I'd say it's fine, especially when playing out live. Doing this when recording a set, well that's something different.

Little bit of advice for you aswell. Remember that it's not going to sound how it would in your bedroom. Hopefully the club's sound technicians have kept the monitors in good nick and there's not too much delay between you and the dancefloor. Just keep that in mind. I'm sure you'll be kool & the gang :2thumbs:
Yeah any chart remixes of recent stuff usually works well.

I played out for the first time last Friday, was pretty scared as I have just been mixing about 4 months and had a 2 hour set!

My advice as a few others have said, dont plan out your whole set. By all means plan your intro and first few songs, but from then on its all about improvising, and knowing all of your tunes as best as possible.

And dont panic, if you make any mistakes just keep your cool and rectify them as quick as possible. Good luck :)

THANKS FOR ALL THE ADVICE MUCH APPRECIATED!!!........blesssssssss!!

Had my first time playing out too last month. Only been DJ'ing about 4months and had to support Alix Perez. All went well but had never used the DJM800 before so took a while to get used too. Make sure you know what mixer you're going to be using before you play and try and get some practice on it beforehand. Good luck!

ALIX PEREZ ? you lucky bastard!!! one hell of a first show!

What you doing planning the tracklisting foolio? Just play vocal tunes and generally just loads of dancefloor cheese i.e. anything ever released on Hospital, tunes like Culture Shock - Protection will probably go down well as well. If it was me I'd just lead them with some dancefloor bollocks and then BLAM come in with some Sly or something haha.

2 hour set on your first play out !? i take my hat off to you i still dont enjoy 2 hour sets and i been playing out for a while , i lose concentration after the 60 minutes and normally notice a tidy blonde piece at the front that i fancy trying my luck with haha

Cheers for taking the time to have a look at this thread!

Ive never played a club before, only a few little parties/gatherings....

Ive (hopefully) managed to get a slot in this small club in my town that plays pretty much shit chart music and the odd fresh / chase n status song... so im sorta nervous on how it will go down!

Im qualter of my way through the mix and im stuck.. im trying to keep it kinda mainstream so the dancefloor isnt empty after 2seconds of me playing!

Set so far...

Mindvortex - onslaught
Chase n status - no problem
Sub focus - timewarp VIP
Nero - me and you (dirty phonics remix)
Tinnie tempah - pass out (DC breaks remix)
Crissy Criss - kick snare (DRUM STEP VIP)
???

Any ideas what will mix well out of crissy criss - kick snare ??
I have played around with gold dust VIP but i hate that track and although it would have the whole club singing i would like to try something different!!

heres the track so you dont have to search!!

any ideas would be great!! thanks :)

like most people have said on here my best advice is plan nothing , see what goes down well . if you were a football manager u wouldnt just have one tactic you would have to adapt to the situation and the opposition , mixing is the same , you never know u could drop a cheeky hazard piece and they go crazy .... have your fitst few tracks laid out nicely then just make sure u got a cd wallet with most areas covered , if u want to mash it up have some dubstep (yuk) in there bit of house or electro . u will find what gets the crowd going , just know your tunes know th breakdowns and drops etc and you will be fine , enjoy and smile and dont do what i did on one of my first plays out , get rat assed and drop clangers all night !!!! looool

and by the way with regards to the kick snare problem .... ive owned the promo , full release and the mp3 ....and still cant find anything that sound really sick to mix this with sorry , think u could be on to a loser

good luck !!!
