Need a new MP3 to replace my constantly full Creative Zen. Thinking about an ipod touch or classic but whats the sound quality like with D&B/Dubstep? Also thinking about a Creative Zen X-Fi as everyone knows Creative sound cards are the best out there.

What do y'all have and recommend? Especially looking for ipod classic/touch reviews.

    Cheers (y)

Sound quality for iPods are really good mate because you have a EQ setting you can mess with to get it sounding how you want. Do you have a decent pair of headphones?

It's not really about the sound quality of the mp3 player, it's about what headphones you listen through

Yeah got a fairly decent pair of phillips headphones, but looking to get some Shure or Sennheisers. And yeah the headphones do matter, but so does the chip the MP3 player uses.

Mate, i bought an iPod years ago, and i still love it. I think i'll always stick with iPods when i need an mp3.
Don't think i'll be buying a touch though. That's just paying much extra for something i believe is not at all necessary. The classic touchpad circle works precise enough for me. And come on, when you get to chose between an iPod touch with 8 or 16 for the same money as a classic with a capacity of 160 gig, what are you gonna choose...

    Classic iPod ftw.

No mp3 player can replicate the sound quality of this player. The luscious bass it produces has to be heard to be believed

At the end of the day there's no point in getting the best sound quality mp3 player if you're not gonna listen through the best headphones, so I'd be prepared to spend at least about £100 just on the headphones otherwise you're wasting how ever much money you spend on the mp3 player itself

that's true. They can handle lots of extra stuff. But if it's just a good mp3 player you want, with loads of capacity: choose the classic.

Not all the itouch apps are making me choose 8, 16 or 32 gig over the 160 gig a classic has to offer. But hey, that's just me.

160 gig is SO much music, even all at 320kbps

I've got about 900 files all at 320kbps and that comes to about 11 gig ...

160 gig would probably accomodate about 10 years of worthwhile drum and bass releases, as long as you're a little bit selective

Expensive but well worth it if you want a fantastic listening experience. First time I listened to a song on it there was a small puddle of drool on the floor by the time it had finished

yeah, if you put sets on there too...
Take a 2 hour mix, like a bbc essential mix. Your at 160 - 180 mb for just one.

And yeah, if you want to, you'll probably have some spare room for a movie or something like that. Imagine you had to delete tunes or sets to put a movie on there. And watching a movie on yr ipod when in a plane or something like that: pretty tight. I hook it up to the tv in hotelrooms to view some quality movies on them. Works fine.

ipods can't do .flac but the zen x-fi can.

If you care about sound quality .flac or .wav is your best option, and a multi-format player like the zen x-fi is the way to go.

If you care more about gadgets to go with your player, get the ipod.

do what you think is best, i know i personally would not take an ipod unless it was free.

The last Generation of ipods, i think 6th Gen, are really shite on Volume. You cant break into them with the EU Restrictions on them. Best to get iTouch. So Loud and really handle the sound quality well

yeah sets and podcasts are the whole reason mine is constantly full haha

Heard about that too, been playing around with my brothers ipod touch and the volume is brilliant but its a 1st Gen but Ive decided I dont really need the apps as I've got a little netbook thing anyway. I will see if my mates have an ipod classic and see what its like, then probably go with that

Sucks that theres only Apple and the Microsoft Zune in the market for any mp3 player above 32gb...
