im not really that into having the fancy phones, n flashy tech in my pocket to be honest, im in need of a new mp3 player though!

i used to be constantly plugged into music but since my last one broke i havent bothered updating.

i usually just go for the cheap ones, something like this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/8GB-Slim-1-8-LC...4|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:0|293:1|294:50

what it looks like (to an extent) doesnt bother me, so long as i can get my mixes on the move! anyone got something like that?

dont wanna spend to much, anyone got any good sources?

    or what do you use?

Only bad thing about ipods is itunes (shit program), but I found a wicked little bit of software called Floola which works instead of itunes and lets you add any song to any ipod you connect to your computer without any of that bullshit syncing or anything like that.

Apple players are garbage. And I-tunes is worse.

I was looking at a Sandisk e280 mostly cause it plays .flac files and lots of other formats. Apple players convert files to their proprietary format, and it is shit quality.

Do you buy a car cause it looks good (go with an ipod), or do you buy a car cause it does everything that you want (go with an archos or a sandisk)

Sony is ok too, but they rely on that A-Trac3 audio codec which is proprietary, and a bit limiting unless you have sony soundforge then you can convert anything you want.

Always stuck with sony for mp3 players, and theyve always treated me well.

Simple drag and drop system on the new ones, which is fucking sick. Pretty much a usb sticky (can drag and drop files too) with a nice interface on it and amazing sound quality.

I got the s series 8 gb one, fucking amazing so far, highly recommended.

-> Just checked and it says £99 online, i'd have a look round shops, got mine for £60 in currys or dixons or something like that.

Drag & drop might be so, yes. But you're sony media device will still compress it to ATRAC internally.

And as i said earlier if you want a .flac to play on a sony device you will need to convert it in sony soudforge first (whether you change it to a mp3, or directly to ATRAC its up to you, but the sony players will always compress your files)

Personally i am more of a fan of non-proprietary technologies that will play the file in its original format (no compression) All compression does is makes your file smaller (and subsequently it will sound more shitty)

I have an archos, it plays any format its given without compression. However it will not play .flac files

If you are unclear on how .flac compares to .mp3 you may want to do some more research. I honestly think .flac will become the standard over the next few year (this is my own speculation) and .mp3 (as a popular format) will be a thing of history. This same evolution happened when DVD took out VHS. Or how .mkv will become more widely used than .mpeg or .avi

At the end of the day you do what you want, i am only sharing this as information to consider before dumping $300 on a i-pod when there are technologies available that will position you better for future improvements in sound quality.

Its slow to load and shit...and you can't copy music from other people's computers without deleting your whole collection.

With that little app I mentioned, if someone wants a tune from your computer on their ipod, you don't have to erase everything.
