So.. I am really having troubles on this.

pads, that move alot.

examples:

im working with albino, and Im experimentating as hell in the Mod Matrix, but for som reaosn, I just can't seem to get anything decent out of it.

I also heard that its a lot of reese modulation, but then applied on a pad.. ive tried this, But it issnt having that much of an effect, or am just doing something seriously wrong?

You can also hear the type of thing im looking for ALOT in Psy/Goa trance.

Thanks in Advance,

That Tech Itch synth has a really simple feel to it. It's just a lead with a triangle lfo on the cutoff, a highpass filter. I'm not sure on how to create the sound but the modulations are definately nothing serious. Some delay after that.

The Spor piece has that of a heavily reverbed and modulated synth stab - sounds like the delay line on it is treated differently and has a filter life of its own, but the pad under it is a simple thing doing a catchy chord progression. Likely just a soft pad preset.

If you find it hard to get it right from a single sound, try combining them and layering stuff up. Split the signal into 2 places and treat them differently to really make movement.

How exactly do you try to do modulations? Surely you can hear an LFO on a filter for example? Maybe you're doing it wrong...

Is it albino3 you're using? The layers on that are pretty much ideal for doing this sort of evolving pad thing from scratch. 4 layers gives you 16 oscillators, 16 lfos, 20 envelopes etc etc etc. You should be able to get something out of that if you keep trying.

@Revtech: that would be great :3

@Kama: Thanks for the explanation on the sounds hah, well, the modulation of it haha. yeah i find it really hard to make, so that layering Idea sounds good, good thing (as subprime stated) that albino 3 has layers in the synth for use hah..

Well, its a bit different, sometimes you clearly hear the LFO on a Filter, but sometimes you hardly hear it, and 9/10th of the times when im not hearing it I dont know where the problem comes from heh.

@ wrigzilla: yeah, I do use em, but for somreason they never show any very clear or big effects, or they just screw up the sound at times.. Maybe im not using it right??

@ Subprime: I was aware of this, and that this could be usefull. I also opened up some fo the albino presets that make use of the layering ability, but Im still not really getting how the system works and how one layer affects an other.. Or issnt it affecting an other at all and are you just adding up on a sound you already created on the other layer ??

I tried to "re-build" presets from albino inside albino, to see how stuff works, and what, what exactly does, but I'm never getting the same sound as the preset.. finding that a bit odd as well.

(I still need to learn the synth properly, altho I already love it for what I can do with it :3)

The better I get at production the more I realize that most of the time the pros aren't using some ultra secret production technique - they just know how to use what they've got, I mean really know. Getting to that point of really knowing how to use the tools at your disposal takes lots of practice and dedication, keep at it and you'll get there.

Yeah, I am starting to get more and more aware of that as well, and the more i realize that, the more I feel like spending time in my DAW and synths then im already doing, The adviced is golden tho actually, since there's alot of guys not realizing this. When i started out 5 motnhs ago I thought everything excisted out of epic secrets as well haha., somehwat gald that issn't the case tho =p

Albino 3 in my opinion is the most complex son of a bitch to understand ever.......period! lol!

I use it ocassionally, but find it very technical and confusing. I too would love to understand the ins and outs of it, like I do with Rob Papen's other stuff (especially Predator....I love that synth!)

I don't want to break out the hardware so let me just do this by memory.

make 3 saw waves, detune each up and down.

EQ it, first a graphic eq, looking for freq. that sound good, and boost those 2 db or so and the ones around it by -1
now do parametric eq and take out the resonant peaks.
put 2 chorus's on, with different timing to get movement
put on a phaser
put on a touch of limiting and a touch of distortion
resample that shit!

should be something like that, I didn't EQ it for pure laziness but it's not shit
load it up again and duplicate it twice
make each duplicate reversed polarity and detune them by 10 cents or so
turn down the volume of the detuned ones a bit
put on a autofilter (a filter with an lfo will do)
make a few band passes with different times to make movement and don't set the dry/wet to much up, keep it at 30 percent wet perhaps
do this with high passes and low passes two, but for the low passes make the less of the wet come thru
http://www.filefront.com/16526423/lesson for pads 2.wav
should be kinda like that now, not bad, not bad
oh and don't forget to normalize everytime
import the wav's and duplicate them, and run one of them thru the filter effects again (you could change them a bit for better effect) and reverse that shit's polarity and decrease the volume quite some
have them both run thru a limiter and EQ it so the spectrum is more full (look at the spectrum and boost where needed) and do a high pass around 100

looking good, a bit of resonant peaks in there I didn't want but I don't want to bother EQing it for time saving purposes
put on some reverb with a pretty big room, and less dampening in the highs
now run izotope ozone if you have it, if not pirate it for now until you've got the monies
put it thru a preset with warm mids and put on stereoimaging, then go and widen the highs and mids and reduce widening in the lows

This is your finished pile of crap, because you don't own a proper studio and your hardware is WEAK.
IF you did it properly it should sound mega fat like this batch I whipped up

I'm sure I did a few things wrong here and there, but correct me :P
