My housemates and I have had enough of our landlord, he's evicting us anyway, but we're literally just going to get up and leave before our notice expires, not giving that cunt any more money.

We've found a ridiculously huge 4 double bed detached place (dnbforum partys soon i reckon :D), and we've made an offer. We're pretyt confident everythings gonna go through fine, its been up for a while and only offered just under asking price.

Only problem is, its unfurnished, which means im gonna have to buy everything (just for my room, not including the communal expenses of sofa's etc).

List of what i need is pretty minimal, but got a feeling its gonna cost a bomb. Which on top of a £3k deposit and 1 month rent up front... >_<.

    I need:

    - Bed + mattress
    - chest of drawers
    - sofa (all about having a sofa in your room)
    - wardrobe

I know i can just hop on freecycle etc, but i wanted it to look half decent. Anyone know anywhere, or any cheap ebay sellers that do the above on the cheap?

Been looking on DFS's ebay store, like 60% off on their ex-showroom stuff but still pretty pricey.

Second hand shops mate all the way. Do not ever buy flat pack and don't buy the cheapest stuff coz you'll just have to replace it anyway.

Spend money buy it one item at a time. Sorry but it's true.

Just pretend you're all really minimalists until you've stocked up.

freecycle.org is a good shout. Got an almost immaculate two seat leather recliner from my local one.

yeah no such thing as cheap decent furniture, if you want quality, buy solid pine, even 3rd of 4th hand pine furniture will outlive flat pack shit by decades.

buying NEW decent furniture for cheap is near impossible..however people throw out all sorts of gold just to make space.

when i was living with my exceptionally poor uncle and aunt, they managed to find some great stuff on freecycle.

also, plenty of charity shops that sell furniture.

We got 2 leather sofas and a tv stand for £200 and an oak 8 seat dining table for £250 I think. That was from a charity shop. All nice stuff too. So look in charity shops. Also it's the mattress that matters more than the bed frame. I recently picked up a really nice mattress for £300 from a sale in bensons for beds. Moving is so expensive!

If you have transport, ebay is great aswell, look for ''collection only'' stuff - mate of mine paid 99p for an 8 seater glass table, with 8 chairs, coz no one bid on it, was out in the sticks sumwhere as collection only, paid £40 petrol to his mate to pick it up. bargin! well over a grands worth of furniture for peanuts

    Sweet for the replies boys.

Logged into my old freecycle account and added my local group, pretty much everything i need on there lol.

Freecycles so confusing though, log into freecycle... then have to log into yahoo... cant actually do anything on freecycle website, all has to be done in yahoo groups, which is a bit shit. Swear it used to be so much easier way back?

at the risk of sounding like a pikey... you tired the dump / tip?

obviously not for rummaging in directly, but they normally have a section for stuff to sell... me n my misses got a fair few bits from there when we first moved in, real good shit for like a £10 a piece
