Esion has been on the scene, under various aliases, for around ten years now. His DJ career has touched a long list of UK venues and has spanned a variety of genres including d&b, dubstep, breakbeat, hip-hop, hard dance, hardcore, freeform and techno. He plays dark & jump-up d&b and dubstep but expect surprises. Diversity is his middle name and he knows what an audience wants better than they know themselves. His darker drum & bass productions with producer Defazed are released through Sub-Tek records but expect solo d&b and dubstep releases on other labels.

Esion met Frequency in Bristol in 2007 and they instantly hit it off with a mutual love of jump-up d&b. Their collaborative club night, Malfunction, has gone from strength-to-strength since conception in 2008, graduating from 300 capacity Timbuk2 to 1200 capacity Lakota. Recent acts include Adam F, DJ Noize, Deranged, Model101, Afghan Headspin, Angel Farringdon, Deficit and TrackSuit Mafia. One half of the show tonight will showcase their Vs concept, first tried at Lab in 2009, playing back-to-back for 60 mins across 4 decks and 2 mixers. Expect a fast & furious blend of a variety of styles, always up-beat and jumping but with Frequency adding a fresh injection of liquid funk and dark-side twists from Esion. The second half of the show will be a feast of d&b and dubstep, including Sub-Tek dubplates.

Modulate is a collective formed of North London dj Deficit and Belfast dj Tracksuit Mafia (now also based in London). The pair met a few years back and started clubbing together regularly, sharing a mutual love of dark, hard, techy drum & bass and dubstep. Modulate currently runs a weekly radio show, sponsored by Intense Records, which aims to showcase both up & coming and established d&b, dubstep and breakbeat dj's. A bi-monthly London club night is planned for late 2010 with possible record label to follow.
