mixing tips

i recently baught decks, im using 2 XL-600 gemini turntables with probably the worst mixer ive seen in my life and 3 vinyls lol, im soon to get a gemini bpm 250 mixer.

ive been browsing these forums for a few months never really posting much mainly using it for tracklistings and such, but now i need help with mixing tips.

when it comes to mixing im completely new, i can only really mix if a song has the same bpm, as i havent masterd pitch yet.

does anyone have any good links or sources to improove that i can use for my level of mixing?

i suggest you save up, then plunk down money for a much better mixer. it'll be worth the wait, and you'll save money in the long run. and djtutor is good stuff. try and watch the vid where he talks about using the snares to beatmatch dnb.

From what i've seen most beatcounters don't work well with dnb anyway. Can't figue out the broken beat, paticularly with 2-step and tech stuff. I used to have a BPM150 and put electricians tape on the counter cos it did my head in!

Exactly, whats the point in mixing anyway if you have bpm counters, may aswell put on a mix cd and pretend
 
my mixers got bpm counters but the dont go up to 170 bpm!lol
plus i dont no how to use em!haha
 
When thats been done its like riding a bike and you will never forget.. You will be able to throw on whatever you feel like and mash n mix shit up... very addictive but thats a good thing as it helps with the practice side of things
 
When you work something new out that helps, jot it down in a pad or a like and then refer to everynow and then to refresh your memory. Also write down a few good drops, mixes, etc and practice them sometimes then you'll be able to build up longer, better mixes :)
 
Forget BPM counters. Let your ears do the mixing. Maybe get two simpleish tunes and just rinse them so you know them inside and out.

I started with i think Sub Focus's - X ray and Clipz - Slippery Slope (god i hate them both now)

The more you play around with them the more you'll be able to beat match and then (hopefully) you will understand the structure of songs.

I like how he demos the "unorthodox" method of setting your counterweight. I have done this for about 10 years, and it works particularly well in the club if your needle keeps skipping.

I have had plenty of people ask if i know how to set up a turntable right because they have never seen this method. Good to see a video show this as an acceptable method.

If youre talking about putting the weight on the wrong way, the reason most people dont do it is because it eats your records twice as fast.
