Been playing round with a little idea from going back 2 back with my mates in the mix.
I've been finding that if I try to mix something that's totally contrasting with the tune that's on the mixes tend to work so well.

Like going from a Liquid tune to 96 jumpup, from a hard simple beat (like shadow boxing) to a really chopped up 95 style, techstep to hard amens.

It seems like it's best to add what's missing from a track rather than sticking to a certain style, and it makes sets much more varied

I like doing this when I'm in a cutting / crossfader abuse type mood, and it can be really fun, like big amen stabs over a simple two step, like you say. I think it makes you push yourself a bit more as well, you have to work the tunes properly rather than just beat mixing

i do the same, go really friggin ill and bring in some ooooold skool jungle that u have to switch to pitch +12 with some nu skool techsteppy stuff, sounds mad, but soo good
