MIDI - USB Adapter Cable Problem

I recently bought a MIDI to USB adapter, and am having real problems getting it to work, I tried it out on some drum pads I got given.

And most notes it wouldn't recognise, and the few that it did were just sustained and kept on going forever.

I thought it maybe a problem with the drums but I have also tried the adapter with my keyboard which I know the MIDI works on and it has the same problem.

The adapter doesn't need a driver because it's plug and play, so I don't know what to do now, and I don't want to buy another one when they're like 15 quid.

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

By the way, this is a picture of the exact cable I have:

I'm having the same problem with the same cable. Were you able to fix it? I'm going to try a different cable.

I have a different cable which is good quality. It once worked then my computer got a virus (my bro went on my computer without permission that basterd) and it won't recognize hits at all. I have a guide on midi and I have midi installed on my computer.

Suggestion?
