If you're on a budget, M-Audio Oxygen 25 or 49. If you're looking for pads you'll be paying more.

I can vouch for the M-Audio oxygen 25 being a good bit of kit, but it doesn't have pads. I believe the M-Audio "Axiom" range does though?

Your friend sounds a bit lazy asking you to do the work, however I can definitely say that I've never had a problem with my Oxygen25! Great little controller!

Definitely agree with lostnthesound though, if you need it to have pads on it your gonna be looking at more expensive stuff.

thats strange. . . . . . anyways, the Akai MPK Mini is cheap enough. I just picked one up to throw in my bag when I'm out.

Gotta have knobs, it can work as an filterbank or almost any hardware when linked, only digital.
