Meta4 - Exit the mist Ep - out now on Nurtured. Beatz
Kalm & Spindall's esteemed Nurtured Beatz imprint return with another fine selection of underground D&B, coming this time from new name Meta4.
London heads may recognise Meta4 from his previous work on the club scene as host MC Killa B, who was to be found blessing the mic across London at events run by the likes of Tech:nology and Renegade Hardware. Now focused on production under his new alias, Meta4 brings two decades of experience in the D&B scene to his work for Nurtured Beatz.
'Exit The Mist' opens the EP with a dark, crisp stepper. Drum lines switch and morph constantly as the sub pressure rumbles away ominously in the background; murky business. 'Counter Attack' raises the energy levels as Urbicide joins Meta4 in the studio, bringing a precise techy workout that's more than capable of moving a floor or two.
'The Funk' continues the Urbicide/Meta4 tag team partnership with a minimalist groove-led roller that packs a serious punch. Last but not least, Fusilade steps into the breach to assist on moody EP closer 'After Hours'; intricate drums, warm bass and melancholy atmospheres invoke images of the early morning light after a sweaty rave.
Bringing a special extra-crispy finish to these beats, scene veteran Survival has provided his expert ears on mastering duties.
