I'm stuck on a tune I'm making at the moment, I've got some nice thick drums with a good underlying bassline, but need something to go on top.

I've added some chords on pads, but the track still feels like it's missing something, and wondered how people go about making their lead parts.

My track is quite mellow so don't want a Hazard/Original sin style riff, but every melody I try just sounds like some 80s electro.

Anyone got any hints or tips?

    Thanks in advance.

A nice stonelove horn put in Fruity's granualizer and edited with eq and such works for rough sounds if you want that (I could post an example) also bit crushing a pulse stab works.

Lastly lounge lizzard 3 has real chill sounds like rhodes and all.
