Now that Mechanical Advantage is the ripe old age 1 year, we will be doing a review of our top 5 tunes from 2011! Encase you missed any of our releases; HNIC GPK will be doing a short review and giving some insight about the artist who produced the track!
First up is the honorable mention spot.
POX is a relatively unknown producer and from what I understand he likes it that way. He has certainly captured that classic Amen sound from the early 2000s but he adds his own twist from modern compatibility. This was Mechanical Advantage 1st EP and an unforeseen runaway success, I guess people are still craving the fundamental sounds of drum & bass. My favorite track was the Smoker. When any samples J Dilla it's for the best, the synths sound great and have a great use of space. For you crate diggers out there the intro (I think) uses a blue note records samples. All of the previous points and statements are a recipe for success. My second most played track was Versailles St. Blues. Great sounds, Wu Tang samples and probably the best use of the Darkest Light sample in a DNB tune.
If you have not heard this EP yet then give The Smoker and Versailles St. Blues a critical listen.
