DJ Marky & Friends – Marky vs. Fabio

In the two years since DJ Marky & Friends launched, it has become a cornerstone of The End’s roster of events and is always a crucial date in the drum & bass calendar. This conceptual night based around Marky’s unique ability to play extended and all night drum & bass sets, has put him in a class of his own amongst the drum & bass fraternity. Marky’s hand-selected innovative line ups consisting of friends and associates have been key to the night’s success, and this May sees another piece of genius as two of the scene’s most important protagonists go head to head.
The one in a million Brazilian, and the liquid funk master Fabio will be taking control of both the main room and the lounge all night long in an enthralling encounter that sees each spinner play two totally unique sets. While one plays a four hour drum & bass set on The End’s devastating main room sound system, the other spins a four hour alternative selection in the lounge, they then trade places and the roles are reversed.
The main room opens to the sultry sounds of Fabio’s inimitable record box. Light years ahead of his time in terms of tune selection, Fabio’s sets are fresher than a spring shower, and as one of the scene’s founding fathers he is no stranger to the all night sets of old. He will relish the opportunity to stretch his legs on a four hour march through the repertoire of drum & bass’ most accomplished studio wizards. Meanwhile, Marky will be treating the lounge crowd to something very special. An uninterrupted journey through the alternative side of Sao Paulo’s finest, Marky will be delving into funk, breaks, house and sounds from across the spectrum of Brazilian music.
Following Marky will be a lounge session from Fabio as he takes us back to his roots. Before drum & bass even existed, it was playing house music that built his early career, and The End’s lounge will be treated to a four hour, ultra-rare step back in time – an insight into the early days of Fabio. Marky will be trading places with Fabio and stepping into his second home in The End’s main room booth, dishing out a set of drum & bass that will bound through every style and sound around – cutting, scratching, mixing and blending his way through four hours of intense rhythms and stomach churning bass lines in his own unmistakable style.
This night will be very special, as two of the scene’s most pivotal figures, who have earned global respect and admiration, step squarely outside their comfort zone and offer a generous insight into their wider music tastes, background, inspiration and influences. Additionally, it’s a one-off chance to experience extended four hour sets from two of the world’s best DJs all on one night, on one of the world’s very best sound systems.
