Yo guys I love doing low pass filter fade ins/outs on things it's sounds pretty wicked.

But I do have a problem, when I automate the fade in. When it hits about 200-300 Hz it sounds quite distorted in the low end. Is there way I can rectify this to make it a smooth fade in?

Turn down the res / make sure any distortion you're using is pre-filter

I usually make a large dip in the eq somewhere around 200 to 400hz in the spectrum to avoid that problem. Surgical eq can also help.

Using the standard fruity plug ins. Parametric EQ 2 & Fruity free filter.

I've tried messing with EQ but I think thats a no go as a lot of the sound is around the 200-400hz mark

When you do an automation on the filter frequency, also automate the resonance on Free Filter to go down at the spot where it resonates. This way you can put the resonance back up after and get more edge on the filter sweep.
