Looking at getting a laptop soon.

Mainly just for use with serato really. Sick of using my desktop. Plus not great for portability =P.

I work in IT, I know my shit when It comes to buying decent tech, but tbh, I'm not too fussed about spec, as long as it'll run serato like a dream I'm happy. I'm mainly interested in it being decent to look at, as much as I pains me to say it. I've never been big on buying shit just cos it looks good, but I'm breaking that now =P.

Been looking at things like the Lenovo ideapad u300s *series or toshiba z830.
But looking to spend only around 500 quid. Any ideas or recommendations for a laptop in that price range that doesn't look gash?
No apple fan boys by the way, I'm not getting a MacBook =P

Lenovo are good. I had my lenovo laptop for 3 years before I spilled beer all over it and it slowly gave up the ghost after that. And so then I bought a lenovo netbook and it runs fine.

As for looks, it is fine, neither here nor there. Not something I care about so bothered to think about.

Yeah exactly.
Its not even the looks im interested in really. More worried about size of the laptop. Eg, the u300s and toshiba are really thin, which is what im going for.

If you want a really thin one you got to shell out a lot more than 500 I think. the ultra books start at around 800 I think. I really fucking want one

Lenovos are really solid, and you can get a thinkpad edge with an i5 for £450. But theyre the opposite of good looking and thin (though I think they look cool in a no-bullshit sort of way :D). In my experience Toshibas arent great, they never seem to last long.

I would not reccomend buying a HP Pavillion laptop. Bought one 3 weeks ago to use with traktor, and although it is more than the minimum spec, it just cant handle it.. They cram it with so much unnessesary shit that slows the laptop down. So hence i wasted £400 on a useless piece of shit laptop.

Toshiba all the way mate! My last one cost me £350 fours years ago an still works fine today. Spec wise its out of date and the battery is fucked but thats my doing by having it on charge for near enough three years lol.

AMD Quad Core processor
8gig Ram
Windows 7. 64Bit

according to the native instruments website this is a lot more than the minimum spec required to run traktor, hence why i purchased this laptop.... And i didnt spend 400 "bux" cos "bux" aint even a fucking word... i spent £400 cos thats the currency in BRITAIN

I think Dedbult knows this well enough already but in case not: DO NOT BUY A FUCKING DELL.
Almost as bad, i bought an Acer. Aspire range no less!

I usually cant stand acer, but this fit the bill. £500 on ebay brand new:

Slim, nice to look at, 4gb ram, nice sized hdd, processor than can be safely overclocked to 2.4ghz.

Everything i need to be honest.

I had an Acer for 4 years.
Dropped it 5 times, smoked heavily infront of it and used it for everything. Pretty sure if i took it out now it'd still boot up fine.

Got a Dell now and it's doing me alright. Hoping to sort myself out a desktop at somepoint but i'm in no rush.
