I recon we need another production competition!

Off a convo that happened ages ago between a few of us after the other comp, I'm proposing we make it so we're only allowed to use samples of our own vocals. I recon that could make it quite creative n shit.

Or encorporate something like that into the comps we normally do.

Anyway... I just wanted another chance to get everyone together n welcome a load of the new guys too. We seem to have quite a lot of new faces.

Where are the guys that normally run this stuff. Logikz n the others...?

Obvs we'd need some judges too...

Anyone up for this then shout n we'll try and get this together again.

    DnBForum Summer 2011 Production Competition!!

    Yeah it's about time alright.

I love all that about just using vocals and that really left field creative stuff personally, but tbh I'd rather see it more open and get loads of entries cos the quality of the tunes coming out of you guys at the minute is pretty sweet and we could get some bangers!

I'm really into sampling stuff around my house and nature documentaries. Would I still get away with it? (Like car exhaust etc)

I suppose so... I recon anything you can record yourself then you can use.

I might just take it on my back n say that I'm starting a "self sampled" competition.

    Fuck it yeah... ok...

We can have another comp with prizes and shit but this comp can be a "sampled sounds" comp.

No prizes for the winner but respect and maybe a Blow Job from Fletch?(not confirmed)

Wht you recon? Then we can get the real guys that have the money from the last rounds to do the real comp?

    haha... joker

    OK.

    I'm starting a competition...

    Rules are:

    1. You're only allowed to use samples that you yourself have recorded with a microphone
    2. Any genre allowed... apart from folk... that's gay
    3. (because otherwise I can see it being a bit difficult) You are allowed to create your own sub bass layer. No other bass layer.
    4. No previously recorded/sampled bass, kick, snare, hi hat, whatever resampling
    5. No queer bashing unless imperitave
    6. No break layering
    7. No synthesis of any kind (other than point 3)

    That sound fair?

We can mangle our sounds up with fx and stuff right, go mad on the resampling, or are you thinking to use them as is?

na you can mangle them up as much as you want

Hmmm... ok... tricky... well get your hands on a mic...

I'm sure you can borrow one from someone... if not, for about £50/£60 you can get a sampson CO1U (I was in the youtube advert for it LEL/GAY)

if you cant do it then you can't be in the comp?

I dunno.. never done one of these before...

Wht's the grand scheme? What do people want?

I like this idea... I have a few questions though...

    1. Is the use of Vocoders allowed?
    2. How about mixer effects like distortions etc? (aka can I pretend to be Beardyman and do some DnB with vocoders and FX) I think this is the only way to stay true to the competition and still have synth sounding ...erm. sounds
    3. Are things like Alchemy allowed? I think they should not be.
    4. What if we record a sound (lets say a burp) and cut out a single oscillation of it. Are we allowed to loop that oscillator in a sampler (again I think not)
    5. (not really a question) I think that all entries must send the UN-EFFECTED (meaning the RAW samples you used to created the track) Just to prove that you recorded them yourself... So if you do a mid range bass with a vocoder you need to send the RAW vocal also (no matter how horrible or off key it may be) and if there are doubts about it screen shots and possibly a project file should be allowed to be called into the picture when Judging time comes...

I'm deff on board for this one though!

I think maybe you should leave out the drums, Eqing snares is hard enough as it is, never mind Eqing a headband or a tin can

Nah, I think if we're gonna do it properly then absolutely everything should be recorded. I'd say not even sub bass is allowed. Pure organic styles.

yea i think this is a wicked idea, the one rule should be

only use samples that you yourself have recorded but feel free to process to fuck in any way u see fit.
and no cheating by recording drum kits, random objects only.
