Anyone else here not feeling it? Think this could be old age kicking in, but it just dont have that 'kick' to make me get out my 'rocking chair' & 'brock the f*ck out'.

I like it in the summer, and the best tunes are good for all year round. Calibre & Marcus Intalex coming up here soon though ;)

Not dissing anyones tunes. Check out Calibre Ft. MC Fats - Drop It Down wicked tune. But I don't like raving to it. Needs more cow bell?

:cowbell:

Not at all, liquid dnb is still dnb, and many many tunes are crossing over different styles, Marcus Intalex - "Immersed" and Break & Hydro - "Immaculate" for example. If the tune is good and has plenty of drive it will get even the oldest geriatric out of his chair, like yourself. I think the problem may just be that you're a picky bastard. :teeth:

Given the choice between room 1 with Andy, Friction and Loxy or room 2 with Calibre, Marcus and DJ Lee ....

y'know I'd be in room 1 for a very large chunk of the night, room 2 for a bit. I do love that liquid shit and its all class, just love the hype.

:devilslay

I must admit I'm not a huge fan of Liquid but there are times when the heavy / dancefloor shit just doesn't work... Like shagging for example :)

Though "Drop It Down" is a heavy tune whatever the weather

i like all sorts of shit but when did 'liquid' catch on as a serious name for this type of tunes?
it was something on creative source the way i remember it that was called liquid funk and at the time nobody really cared.

smells highly internet to me.

dont get me wrong, i dont remember what it was called before the term was coined. housey soulful uplifting dnb i guess.

I like liquid, especially the Hospital version and it certainly has played a massive part in the dnb revival (at least it got me back to buying new records) but I'm beginning to dislike the liquid bandwagon (like I wrote to Knowledge last month).

Some of the stuff coming out is a real pisstake (ctrl + v flute, bass, vocals + guitar) - maybe thats why some of the Hospital stuff is becoming harder and I'm heading back to the darkside :)

Still love the liquid though, especially for getting newbies into dnb (along with jumpup).

You know what people are like for putting lables on stuff. I remember when 'tech step' was flavour of the month. You know it will be 'Ford Escort' or 'Minge Flaps' next. :D

Like the style. Check out THIS TUNE Side B I brought a few years ago. I could never put that track it in a set. But the track is a fooking tune!!!! :) Sits there in my top 10 DnB of the last 5 years.

yeah that was a fabio compilation, and I guess people really liked the term, cos that is when people I know started using it (2000). Up til then I called it 'melodic' dnb ... after the dreaded 'intelligent' term left off.

its very similar to 'techstep' which was coined on that compilation techsteppin ( I believe)

I actually like it still.. or at least some of it (yet a lot of it can get boring rather quickly) The Insiders always do it for me, as well as some nice amenistic tunage here and there

where the term techstep was coined is anybodys guess really cos dnb was always classed in steps, techno sounding tunes would quite naturally be techstep tunes and so forth.
'liquid funk' would be tunes that sound like what that compilation album? bit of a narrow definition dont you agree. ok not 100% true but the name does suggest it.

but yeah, intelligent. i love the music but the name, theres a way to alienate people if i ever saw one.

Groove-teh-rider had his 'Hardsteppin' compilation too

i know, it was a rethorical question mate. just what such a name suggests to me. my point is i think its silly to name a genre after an album. smells internet to me.

Genre names are useful sometimes. Those who don't like them don't have to use them.

If someone asks me what kind of music I`m playing, I always just say drum & bass, when they ask what kind of drum & bass... just say "listen for yourself" ;)

I'm dubious about internet lingo too, my first post on here was ridiculing the fact that 'clownstep' mainly was used online and I never heard the term in real life. I honestly don't believe the liquid thing is in the same basket.

No one person/album decided it was called 'liquid' but obviously a lot of people think its a relevant term, so it got picked up, and well before the internet dnb explosion, ie. before DOA.

Why reject a label many people think is appropriate, just cos it was the name of an album? Smells like a reaction to me.

to say that it was established 'well before doa' is a bit strong!!!

thats where our view on this matter differs because to me it very much is in the same basket. ok to compare it with clownstep is also a bit strong but no record shop offered 'liquid' in the crates before it got established on the internet. feels backwards to me.
and yes, you sussed it mate, that is a reaction(?).
