Liquid/Dancefloor DnB Tune (feedback wanted)

hi battletek, nice melodic track. drums need to be more in the front. the bassline and chords don;t match in keynote. there is also some quirky tone in the chords that dis-harmonise. when you sort of these things the track can be awesome ..

Thanks mate! Do you have any tips or tutorials on how to fix that keynote problem easily?

hi battletek. unfortunately, there NO EASY way of fixing the key note problem, unless you study about musical notes and scales. i myself have no idea about key notes (only i know where the C key is). i suggest you look into this video by icicle. it's solving your problem (in example of drum keys, but any instrument is basically the same issue) .. i learned a lot of from it:

Wicked energy. Always good vibes in your tunes. Nice work.

Agree that something sounds a little off key. Are the lead and the bassline both vst synths? Should be easy enough to get them in key if they are, pitching samples around can be a little trickier if its audio based though.

Thanks so much for the help and apprecation guys. I will try to fix it :) @rounder yes it are synths.. can't hear yet tho what is sounding off key at the moment.. the chords to the sub? the main bass to the chords? can you give an example at which minute it kicks in?

To me it's the trancey bassline between 1:06 and 1:30. First note and last note of the sequence sound a bit odd. Post up some screen shots of the midi notes for the lead and this bassline if you want some help checking the basics of it being in key. I'm no musical theory guru but may be able to help.

Still a nice tune.

Ah thanks! I take every chance I get to learn, so if you're willing to show me yes :) This is the part between 1:06 and 1:30

Will take a look a bit later as I can't see a lot in the image on my phone. If you get a chance to post the midi for the lead that would be useful as it may be the parts clashing as opposed to something in the sequence of this one part.

Theres no rules or correct way to do this so its all personal taste. However, the bassline looks to be in C Major (all the white notes). As I said i'm no theory expert and I'm sure another poster will chip in and put me straight but....

Original : http://onlinesequencer.net/214885

3rd and 5th chord sound a little off to me

Changes : http://onlinesequencer.net/214894

1. Removed inversion of third chord placing D2 on D3
2. Moved D3 to C3 on final chord so you are playing fifths, on two octaves

These sound much smoother to my ear and a little less discordant.

Can't recommend the course below highly enough. You can easily find vouchers online to get it for around £10. Really not as heavy as you would expect and gives you a solid base for this sort of thing. The lesson on perfect fifths is free as a preview which might help on the second chord I tweaked.

Fourth chord looks fine but is still not the most pleasant sound, I would switch for the following but thats really starting to change your track which isn't what you asked for.

Hope that helps in some way. Please feel free to completely ignore me :)
