it hasn't happened yet but there is talk of the major record labels (sony BMG, warner and universal) making it legal to copy and burn CD's, i know the fact that it is illegal doesn't stop anyone but i was amazed when i heard this.

this is guna open up a whole can of worms for them.... sounds like it'd get messy.

so it'd be ok to burn/copy cd's for your friends i presume? but it wouldn't be ok to download illegal mp3s from them?

You heard wrong. What you heard is either:

    1) a distorted version of a proposed change in law allowing CDs to be legally ripped into mp3 (or mp3s burnt onto CD) - which is currently an act of piracy under UK copyright law. You have no right to transfer from one medium to another.

    2) that the big record companies are going to stop fucking about with DRM and sell mp3s that can easily be copied, transferred, burnt.
