Ez mate, Owain posted this on Facebook:

You’ve probably heard the cheeky monkeys chattering on the jungle grapevine…

Well, it’s true. Breakneck’s leaving home after more than five years and over 50 Pier events.

We still love the Pier, and will be very sad to leave, but to be honest, for all the decrepit faded grandeur and atmosphere, we can’t justify doing the same thing on the last Friday of the month over and over again. Neither can the venue justify a 40% price hike, but that’s another story.

It’s time for Breakneck to get excited, aim high and get ambitious. The 10th April event at Liquid with Pendulum, Hype and Skream is just the start. Bigger venues, bigger lineups. Truly special events to get really excited about.

We’ve had some great times at the Pier and have pushed Portsmouth’s DnB scene forwards, bringing down the biggest names such as Roni Size, Goldie, Pendulum, Dillinja and VALVE for their first Pompey nights, as well as having a host of A-listers down on the regular including Andy C, Friction, Hype, Zinc, Mampi Swift and Grooverider to name but a few.

There are just two scheduled Breakneck events on the Pier, and we want to go out with a bang and want all friends old and new, and all our regulars to come and see us off.

This Friday we are doing an £8 payback with High Contrast, everyone’s favourite DnB remixer and producer of the tune of last year ‘If We Ever’ from his ‘Tough Guys Don’t Dance’ album. High Contrast didn’t get down last time we had him booked, so that’s why it’s £8, payback, see. As one of the few remaining names on our hitlist to play Breakneck, High Contrast must be the freshest, and you don’t wanna miss.

Support comes from the Breakneck trusty trio of SDM, Triple M and Charge. As you know, all three have grown massively as DJs in the time Breakneck’s ran the Pier. Warming up for the big names, filling in for them when they get delayed, and delivering mind-bending sets in their own right. On Friday SDM will be joined by our secret weapon, and Breakneck regular-nearly-resident, the scratchmaster cK. Blamm!

Warm up comes from Portsmouth’s most prolific producer and one-man Myspace phenomenon TheOneMattB. Expect a set full of fresh new genre-bending craziness, much of which has never been played out on a big system before. Check www.myspace.com/theonemattb if you need convincing, and download his two free albums of freshness and his DnB mix while you’re there.

All the lineups are below, so we won’t harp on over PunchFunk’s lineup. Just don’t forget, only two more Breakneck’s at the Pier. So don’t miss them, because things will never be the same again. No more regular big name Drum and Bass in Portsmouth.

Years from now, you’ll say ‘Do you remember Breakneck at the Pier?’

Well it’s time to give yourself some good memories, and play a part of the final scenes in our Pier DnB saga.
