Beat-herder is a real heart-on-sleeve, rootsy Northern festival that rivals Secret Garden Party when it comes to sheer escapism. Originally grown from free party roots, it now welcomes 10,000 festival goers. The entire site is built by hand, from each and every sign post to an entire model Victorian street, complete with functioning tattoo parlour, pub and barber shop… so the festival is quite literally like no other. You won't see the same old props and stages that do the festival rounds here. The line up spans everything from dub, reggae and drum & bass through to house and techno and there's always a strong live contingent too - the new bands tent is particularly good this year.
