"As part of our Sampling Season we're bringing you a great remix competition in conjunction with Shogun Audio. The track you need to remix is Icicle's Time To Remember which came out on Shogun's sister label SGN:LTD in 2007. Don't worry if you're not familiar with it, you can listen to it here http://kmag.trackitdown.net/genre/drum_and_bass/track/776826.html. Then simply download all the free samples http://soundcloud.com/knowledge/sets/icicle-time-to-remember-parts to the track and get creative.
[note: you have to download all the samples individually off soundcloud which is a tad annoying. if you want them all in a handy .zip file http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WOG6YMMP]
Icicle recently spoke to Knowledge about his new Cold Fear EP and his forthcoming album, so we asked him if he has any advice for anyone entering the competition:
"I think you have to maintain the original character of a tune unless you are remixing cross genre. You have to make sure it has your own identity written over it though. I would say the key is to reinterpret the individual elements of a tune and then re-use them in your own way to recreate some of the original vibe of the tune. Just listen to Matrix's remix of Medicine and Optical's remix of Noise of Human Art if you wanna see how it should be done!".
The winning remix will receive a fantastic prize of £1000 of Fenchurch clothing, a Shogun T-shirt, Icicle's Cold Fear EP and free guest list to the next Shogun event at Fabric in January.
How to Enter
1. Send your entry in 320kbps MP3 format to http://soundcloud.com/groups/knowledge-shogun-audio-remix-competition
2. Deadline for entries is Sunday December 13th 2009 and the winner will be announced on Monday December 21st.
Rules
1. All Time To Remember remix samples can be freely used in other productions but you must credit the source.
2. Any competition entry submitted will remain the property of Shogun Audio.
3. The judges for the competition are DJ Friction and K-Tee from Shogun Audio, Adam Savage (Backdrop Promotions) and Colin Steven, the editor of Knowledge magazine, and their decision is final!
Please note the Fenchurch prize will be sent as two separate packages, £500 of clothing from their Autumn/Winter 2009 collection, and £500 worth from their Spring/Summer 2010 collection.
So get downloading, get remixing and good luck!"
