maybe you can settle something for me. im trying to organise my records into styles, like dark/jump up/liquid etc, but jump up itself has like, sub-styles... like if you compared dillinja - nasty ways and aphrodite - lava flows... nasty ways id mix with dark dnb and it would sound ok, but lava flows would just completely gay out a dark dnb set... with all the different jump up styles wouldnt it make jump up a sub-genre of drum and bass, and not simply a style. or am i just over thinking things >,< lol its been doing my head in all day.

As long as you know where it is, it shouldn't matter really should it?

Dont do it! Just keep your records in the order you buy them in best way. I rearranged mine once worst thing i ever did

i'd agree but i like to label things... nasty ways has a dark gritty riff but isnt really dark like renegade hardware style releases... i'd consider it a kind of dark/jump up hybrid... my ocd kicks in around this time and i have no idea where to put it. in my dark dnb box, or a jump up box... (it's not just this track, obviously, there are many others, like mampi swift - jaws, q-project - champion sound, etc)

just thought others might have an opinion!

i agree, sometimes messing with order creates chaos! but, it's purely to pull out sets to play on radio. atm im trying to get all my darker dnb together to play because quite frankly, jump up died many years ago, but al of my records are just piled in boxes divided by years, and it takes time finding stuff i think go well together. hence the organising into styles for easy picking! lol

More and more tracks are slipping into more and more (sub)genre's these days.. Really not so easy organising tunes!

im glad it isn't just me who feels this! i wouldnt mind if there was a distinct definition for them, but there's not. it's all just dumped under jump up, even when it makes you want to fall down with disappointment... organising my record boxes is gonna be a complete headache. i decided to just dump anything that goes ok in a dark dnb set in one box, and everything else in another... all i can do!

The best way to organise records is by label imo

i've seen people do this, but then the years are all over the place. dnb from 2000 is a lot slower than dnb from 2008... and some labels have 1 or 2 good tunes but thats it, compared to ramm and renegade hardware where most the tracks are collectible... i was looking for an easy way to organise a set on the fly, cos picking records to play somewhere week in week out gets tedious. you just want to select n go! lol

i have organized my records by style and label. for example labels like critical, dispatch, rhw, soul.r etc - the darker/deeper labels have their own place at my shelf. on the other hand, liquid, jump up labels have their own, on a different shelf. if a shelf gets full i don't add any more records there or swap with others - i start from a new one. best option for me cause this way the records are always pretty much on the same place and i can find tunes i need really quickly.
