Hey all,

Just got into dnb and I was told by some of the people here to check out super sharp shooter by the Ganja-Kru. I did and loved it, however im having some trouble finding other jump-up dj's and distributors to buy cds from. Can anyone give me a link to one. Also, while looking at different subgenres of dnb I found one called clown step. I like the name and was wondering if anyone can explain it to me. The article i read on it made it seem like a sort of joke.
thanks allot

Well it started as a joke.

Clownstep got a wobblin' bassline so sometimes they call it Teh w0bble.
Search for artists like Generation Dub, Distorted Minds, Twisted Individual, Baron, Benny Page, Clipz ....

Well yeah sorry for the small explaination. Hope someone will help you more

clownstep is a derogatory name made up by people to describe that type of jump-up which is especially wobble-y and maybe a bit toooo dancefloor oriented/oblivious. Unfortunately its often used to describe anything remotely fun and/or bouncy by certain tech/darkside lovers, regardless of whether its quality or not. These people are often too caught up in the 'junglist soldier' image and dislike anything that doesnt involve slaughtering innocent goats. imo.
I hate the term clownstep, if its good jump-up its just that, if its bad jump-up, its just bad music.

as for jump-up links -
check ganja kru http://www.discogs.com/artist/Ganja+Kru,+The
as thats what Super sharp came out on

for some groovy downloads of this era of music check http://www.mrhaste.com/index.php?p=m

or http://www.ragga-jungle.com

What is the "junglist soldier" image you were talking about. Sorry fr the stupid q's but im really interested in all the cliches and styles of this stuff.

oh thats just me being sarky about those who take the whole image too far - yknow, wearing certain labels and fashions, talking the talk, keeping it 'real', drawing a big line between themselves, who are of course the hardcore, and the 'lightweights' (nearly everyone else)
I find its a restrictive and trend driven aspect of dnb which is very prevalent, due to the fact its already a male dominated / underground culture with more than enough machismo to keep it going for several centuries.

edit - god im a pompous tit

FUCKING RIGHT MATE

For good jump-up check out Greenpiece Records!!:teeth:
hehehe
Clown step is a term to describe the triplet 3/4 time signature stuff thats like a waltz. (That snippet in The Vault by Pendulum or Voices by Jez Q)
Jump-up is the sound based around a 2 step and bouncy sounds (Hype, Aphrodite etc).
In my opinion, all drum and bass is good drum and bass, we don't need no divisions or sections.

Mesh you pompous git - can I have your babies?

Mwahaha. You said everything that I would have. Especially about the 'real' junglist soldiers. They're the only thing I dislike about the scene. Well apart from there not being 3 junglettes for every junglist :)

Oh yeah - check out www.trueplayaz.co.uk - loads of jump-up. Also beatport.com has a load of jumpup records, except they're not labelled as such. Aphrodite, Mulder, Mickey Finn are the names you should be looking for, among others.

Some tunes you shud check:
G Dub (generation dub) "bodysnatchers"
J majik "swallow ya soul" & "mash up"
Twisted individual "bandwagon blues" "The F Word" "crap rinse out"

Lots of people do, it's wierd. At Global Gathering 2004 he almost got booed off by the chav massive. It was rotten. Guess it's just the American thing? All the sets I've heard from him have been wicked especially the Therapy Sessions one from last November. That was proper dark! :D
