In some cases, the A&R may say to them "we want your remix to sound like "X tune" or "Y tune". The label is paying them for a service and sometimes would like certain quotas to be fulfilled. It's happened to us a couple of times in the past.
Think of the label/A&R as a customer in a restaurant, and the artist's as a chef. Say they ordered steak. They'd tell the chef how they want it to be cooked, as they are paying for the service.
