The fuck else you gonna do with them? It's a pretty damn inert gas, I'm betting money you don't have the equipment to get it to condense, let alone freeze into some workable amalgam. Just fill your god-damned balloons 'n' try flying your house to Paradise Falls.

Well honestly who gives a fuck about the balloons at a party? Always seemed like a waste of money to me, way more important things to spend dat money on.

I think I read something about helium, it's not massively abundant and it's needed for fridges, or something

Re: Is it right to waste helium on party balloons?

In the universe as a whole, it is one of the commonest elements, second only to hydrogen in its abundance. On Earth it is relatively rare, and one of the few elements that escapes gravity and leaks away into space.

Helium has the lowest boiling point of any element, at -269C, just a few degrees above absolute zero (-273C). This makes it of key importance for superconducting magnets used in MRI scanners, which must be supercooled to generate the hugely powerful magnetic fields required.

    much copy. much paste.

Re: Is it right to waste helium on party balloons?

thing is MRI's need pure, liquid He to work.
Party baloons uses waste MRI He that has been contaminated with air (and thu cannot be recycled to pure He)

I don't see a problem. More sensationalistic headlines without actually fully explaining whats going on...

*IF* if He balloons were banned it would not change the problem for MRI or other equipment needing liquid He

i dont quite get this claim though. Helium is produced in a nuclear fusion reaction...

    it's not valium either m8.

thread name got changed from 'helium' to 'valium' because mods = gods.

yes helium is 'the one that makes you talk funny yes'

what isin those balloons the kiddies are inhaling from at raves is nitrous oxide AKA laughing gas.
