no, not the supposed instrument of torture from the dark ages, but the english NWOBHM band. Are they big inside UK, as they are, for example, in south america?

I mean, I've read articles saying that they are considered "just another band" in UK, and not one of the most well known and legendary heavy metal acts in the world. Is this right?

Hmmm you might be asking the wrong forum Darky. Iron Maiden's fans are in their mid to late 50s now and I have no idea how they regard the band now, nor how big the market for that kind of music is.

They did kinda produce shit after about 1986 like the rest of the new wave imo.

Well, I asked here because I'm guessing that some of us like heavy metal as well. Anyways, when they come to Brazil, you'll notice that their public is made from childs to seniors. I mean, from 5-6 yo to 60+. And, of course, you have the fanboys, who say Maiden is the best band on earth, period.

They replaced the vinyl section in the main HMV in Oxford Street with heavy metal t-shirts about 6 years ago. I admit I cried a little. But I guess the market must be quite big if they can sell that much merch.

Borf and Karl will be along shortly to flesh this thread out a bit don't worry.

I like to think that heavy metal bands have lead singers that are secretly posh like Whitesnake..

I reckon David Coverdale is a very good vocalist, maybe one of the best. But I've gotta recognize Bruce Dickinson's vocals are also quite good. I'm not a fan of Iron Maiden, don't have a single album of them. But I do like the most known songs, like The Trooper, Fear of The Dark, 2 minutes to midnight, and even new songs like Paschendale.

I've liked Iron Maiden as long as I can remember. Powerslave and 7th Son Of A 7th Son are their best albums for me, went off them when they got rid of Bruce Dickinson and got blaze bayley from wolfsbane in, in the mid 90s (yeah I'm an old git)... although Bruce came back, and they've done some decent albums again

    love this tune...

Used to like them a lot as a teen and then I started to get into heavier metal type music, they are massive in the UK and I'm pretty sure worldwide to be honest, although they are pretty cheesy you gotta remember what era they are from, they were a pretty big influence to the metal bands that formed and probably still some bands that are about today

So, you're saying you are THAT OLD, taking as reference the "mid 90's"? C'mon, kid, let's change this diapers of yours.

Now, back to topic: I like Bayley solo carreer. Nothing to do with what he did on Maiden.

Nah, I read it on a website called "Whiplash". It's kinda of a brazilian Blabbermouth.

Yeah, I know Blabbermouth has it's flaws, and so does Whiplash. That's why I'm asking... Either way, I'm not a fan of Iron Maiden, I was just curious.
