When it comes to the wonderful world of music there are a few individuals that stand out above the rest, whether it's for making funky breaks tracks, entertaining clubs around the world, perfect seamless mixing, or just being one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, Plaza has all of this and more! With several years of hard work supporting breaks he can be credited with playing his part in pushing the scene forward.
Plaza de Funk aka Marcello De Angelis has been producing and DJing since 2001. After a few formative years spent dabbling with production and releasing records on labels such as Oxyd in his native country Italy, he moved to London in early 2004 and almost immediately got signed to West Records.
The deal lead to the release of the “Got The Funk Ep” in 2005 and was a massive hit, with support from all major players across the board. This was followed by the “Back Home Ep” on Mantra Breaks, and after these two releases Plaza started working on a string of remixes all through 2006 and 2007, re-tweaking Dj Killer, Flore, The Drum Monkeys and MI Loki for a number of other prominent breaks labels. Even with all this remix activity, Plaza has still found time to come up with some original tunes, releasing “Get On Down” on West records in early 2007. There have been a lot more releases between the second half of 2007 and the beginning of 2008, namely the remixes of Zimbardo "Say Hey", Break The Box "Groovy Moves" and the Beat Assassins "Generation MTV" plus a new original, "Ghetto Groove/Beatdown" on Brighton Breaks which has cruised in at number 1 and number 2 in the Trackitdown breaks chart, and remains a steady climber in the Beatport breaks chart. This killer club track “Ghetto Groove/Beatdown” is a funked up crowd pleaser so it's no wonder he's getting extensive support from some of the big hitters in the scene and a nomination for best breakthrough producer at Breakspoll 2008.
Crowds of thousands sampled Plaza's DJ skills at both the Glade and Glastonbury festivals in 2007 while also jetting around to play in the States, France, Italy, and some of the most respected clubnights in the Uk. So it just goes to show he is a DJ of massive appeal and potential. This fantastic run of gigs in 2007 led to him being crowned Breakspoll 08 'Breakthrough DJ' in front of thousands of fans at this year's annual international breakbeat award ceremony.
