what are the loans designed to help with? tutition fees or living expenses?

we dont get bulk cash loans like that here.

the one we're talking about is for living expenses, 1500 loan and 300 grant. you can get other loans for fees if you need to.
i dont, as i started uni before the fees introduction.
generally the system gives you quite a bit of cash whilst at uni, but you end up with a considerable debt to start you career with.
theres always graduate loans, and then flee the country!

oh ok. thanks gordo.

ours is a little different. the government can pay for our tutition, which we pay back when we start working.

and we can also get a small allowance each fortnight for living expenses, which we dont have to pay back.

no massive bulk loans though!! lucky you!

its a double sided knife really, we get 3 instalments of 1800, 300 if grant, so for a 4 year course your at -£18,000 already.
its not too bad tho, the interest is bonded to inflation, sumthin like 3% per year.

also, you pay it through your wage, and only if you're making over £15 grand a year.
still, my plan is to borrow as much money as i can and move somewhere far far away..

Yeah 60 quid a month is taken off me for student loan, then I've got another £300 a month in credit cards and loans...

Now that really sucks!
