best advice i can give you is... commit, practice and listen to your records when your not mixing, it will help you get to know them better

good luck chloe, you're gonna love it

    wicked chloe.

if you have a musical ear mixing will seem a whole lot easier once you learn to match beats, no-one is perfect when it comes to mixng. practice makes permanent. that is most important. practice practice practice :)

    all the best

dont become yet another andy c *double drop* clone ...... yorn

theres so much music out there that you can play stuff that still smashes the dance without playing the latest big hitters that everyone is playing ?

mixing ???? ... ive heard sets from djs that havent cleany mixed infact just played b2b and ive enjoyed them , to much anal bullshit goes on about djing IMO

your lucky your female ? sounds sad but your more than likely in a male dominated community to get further than 80% of the male wannabee djs who have tables ( just depends if its a hobby or you want to take it further )

if you can count 1 - 4 you can mix ...

other than that never think you have mastered the art as your always practising

    enjoy it .....

    goodluck

good shout chloe, my advice is take some time positioning your speakers so they're at a good height and aiming at your ears rather than down low aiming at your legs or midrift, it makes monitoring so much easier especially when you're first starting out. Also play around with your headphones and how you use them, try monitoring through each ear and see which way works best for you, good luck

    Do not do this!
    Its not cool

It is the best hobby to have :)

I agree best advice is to get some good speakers, makes the beats clearer to hear, I was stupid and did not upgrade for ages but now have some nice Alesis speakers which I love. Just need the Technics now!

try and adopt the ltj bukem style and blast out some uber long blends, looking cool behind the 1's and 2's knowing the fact you have the best amens known in history and ocassionally pushing your glasses back up your nose whilst cutting the bass out

i recommend second hand bowers & wilkins speakers, some pairs go real cheap on ebay and they have rinsing sound quality and volume, may be a little more than you'd hoped to spend but you won't regret it, mixing is a million times more fun when it's loud, clear & bassy

    have a butchers http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_...1&_nkw=b&w+speakers&_sacat=See-All-Categories

trust me this will change your life for the better. You'll never have a bored moment again.
Nothing to do - have a mix.
Stuff to do - have a mix first.
Not at home - think about mixing.
    Asleep - dream about mixing.
Wake up - have a mix
    Repeat x infinity

Just don't get disheartened at the start, beatmatching comes with practice, and it will come as long as you spend enough time on the decks. Most of all just enjoy it, and spin the tunes you want to, not stuff other people want you to

    Nice one!:D
I've recently started practicin' mixin' vinyl myself...I only read a few of the threads on here, and saw a part about knowing the tunes, etc., which is a good point as I'm practicin' with breakbeat tunes atm..as my friend lettin' me practice on his decks is a breakbeat DJ mainly, and I'm not familiar with all of the tunes, so I have to "anticipate" a good drop in the tunes at times..the first good drop I had was because one of the tunes he has I actually love, and have on mp3, so I knew when to set that up to drop it into the mix, hehe..I have a friend who just got alot of dnb, on breakbeat science, vinyl 2nd hand from a dj friend, and is gonna send me the doubles, hehe...:D
But yeah, I'm sure all the peeps well into it can help ya out more than my words, but good luck with it Chloe and one day you and I both will be postin' mixes on here too, heh..and I'm sure we'll both have Lenzman in the mixes,:D(y)

    pz & respect to ya'!
