‘Blue Flame’ is your early introduction into the sounds of Ill Effects. The track opens with random cuts of sonic and a foreboding, scarcely-audible sample, before it rolls out ambitiously into clanking metallic breaks. Ill Effects comes at you with the full force of his production might, amongst driving drum patterns hitting harder and harder with every peddled kick. The bassline weaves between each layer, with shaking percussion giving a flipside to its subtle sub warbles.

Up next is ‘Fallen’, a minimal, clattering record which shakes between every segment. Drums take centre stage, giving a reverberating weightiness which helps create a punchy groove. Less aggressive than its predecessor and more equipped to get bodies on the dancefloor, Ill Effects opens another side of his production repertoire and helps to platform his diversity as an artist. He proves it’s not just the aggressive, call to arms drum & bass tracks he can provide masterfully.

And lastly, comes ‘The Path’ alongside featuring artist Section. Both powerhouses combine their skillsets to unleash an early 2000s, smashing roller which ebbs and flows between its breaks. With every drum roll the track snaps at you whilst continuing its descent into chaos, underpinned by its jaunty percussion. Following its close, this EP will leave you reeling. The design standard upheld by both newcomer label and artist sends a worrying message to the scene’s bigger players…
