Yo. So a couple of people on here responded pretty well to some hip hop and/or poetry I posted a while ago. Just thought I'd let you know I've just released a free release mixtape. Any supports much appreciated!

Can listen/download free from Bandcamp or there's some previews below: http://brokenculture.bandcamp.com/album/the-great-escape

Gave those three tracks a quick listen. Really looking forward to listening to the whole thing.

Down Below is lovely. Lovely flow over that beat.

Where do you record? At home or did you go to a studio?

Cheeers chaps! Means a lot honestly.

Logikz, the poetry stuff I posted in that thread is over a beat on the tune called 'The Rabbit Trap.

Borf, safe. I recorded at home for this one (just a £40 usb mic but it does the job, Behringer C1-U it's called). Next project will be a 4 track EP an gonna go studio an really try and refine it all for that one, for this I just wanted to get a load of stuff out so I can approach more producers an kind of put a line under everything I've done so far.

What software you using to record?

I got seinheser (spelling?) mix for like £60, some interface for same price and use cubase, and I could never figure out how to mix vocals properly. Never sounded right with the beat. So got Freek from here to do my EP. But even then, the recording quality wasn't great, so it still didn't sound completely right.

Yer I know what you mean man, I just been messing about with it a lot. Recorded a quick 16 at a professional studio the other day though an it sounded so much better.

I just record straight into Logic. Then I EQ out the bass and EQ a dip somewhere in the mid range to make the vocal a bit more gravelly. Then I put compression on with a pretty strong knee and a compression level so it's hitting 8/9 (I don't really know all the technical terms and units to be honest, not near Logic at the minute).

It's all in the backing vocals though I reckon. Some tunes I rerecord the whole verse on another track and then have that at a slightly lower volume, other tunes I just do the last half of bars/general punch ins with the flow.

I think it's very hard to master your own voice though to be honest, too easy to pick up flaws in it and no one likes the sound of their own voice that much.

King, cheers man. An nah didn't pay the producers but the beats are all original an exclusive to this tape. Just through Facebook links an heads I know really. I've promoted a lot of people's stuff through Broken Culture so that probably helps too to be honest.

Safe to the rest of you as well!

Castel: I dunno what else to say haha, the links right there on the next page that comes up? I'll get it up elsewhere tomorrow or something.

Yer man, he's dope! Love the more soundboy inspired stuff he's been doing recently, tune with Parly B he did is dope. This remix of one of his tracks is cool as well:
