I wouldn't recommend doing too much boosting. just find the right sample. Use an acoustic snare with a bit of ring to it. Apply a very short reverb, plate setting would be desired then a gate maybe.

If you do boost, boost the frequencies you want to keep and then reduce the output by the appropriate amount, but yeah, find the right sample is better.

You're probably looking for a snare rim shot, it'll have more of the pronounced harmonics of the drum; which you could then, presumably, do enough surgical EQ'age to get the just the ringing ends of it and layer it in with whatever other snares you wanna go with dude.

Maybe get a ringing sample (not a ringing snare sample) and just play it along side the snare?

Find an acoustic snare to layer, but make sure its pitch fits with the other snare(s). The EQ etc.
