Its worth doing, with buying a licenced copy you get good support, and other benefits like really cheap upgrades when software gets updates or new versions (I'm still running reason 3, can upgrade it to 4 for around £70). If you like your software and it does what you need it to do its worth paying for I always think.

well, ive been using cubase since 1999, and in 06 i finally got the cash to buy a legit version. best investment ive done, and i feel much better for going legal.
and for a newcomer now theres no excuse to go pirate.you've got reaper which they pretty much give out for free, and absolutely shed loads of quality free and ridiculously cheap plug ins.
but most newcomers want to use the tools the pro's utilise, thinking that it will make their sound better. this is of course completely wrong.
its best to have few tools which you know inside out, than hundreds of badly cracked software, just because you read somewhere that dj shithot uses em too.

logic is Mac only, and i dont know anything about the evil white ones. cubase and ableton got limited demos for both platforms. Cockos give out a fully functioning copy of Reaper for free, with only limitation IIRC a 10 second nag screen when you boot the program. All they ask is that you try it for 30 days, and then either buy a license, or uninstall it! is that a fucking quality company or what ?! even the licenses are dirt cheap. $70 for private use, $200 for comercial. compare that to the stupid amounts of money steinberg and apple are asking for their platforms, and also consider the fact that it does exactly the same thing as the big ones, and in some respect better too (sidechaining in reaper is sooo smooth, puts Cubase to shame really), its really a no brainer.
    do it!
